Wrong SSN on FAFSA?

I accidentally submitted an entirely new FAFSA with the wrong SSN (don’t ask :< ). Now I got a response saying that it wasn’t processed because I couldn’t match it with a FAFSA ID signature. Should I go ahead and sign it with the signature and send it again (still with the wrong SSN? idk?) or enter the correct SSN at the page and send it again with information from the previous semester? I guess I’d be sending two then (a new one I started with an incorrect number and one I can send again with the correct number), is that an issue?

I’m really stressed because of this, so thank you so much for helpibg.

Do you have a FSA ID matching the correct SSN? If so, correct the fafsa and sign and file. You cant sign it with the wrong Ssn and can’t get a ID with the wrong number.

If you don’t have a FSA ID with the correct SSN, you have to get one. If you submitted with the wrong one, you have to wait 3-4 business days and try again. Be careful with every entry. Both my daughter and I had to resubmit several times because of entering the wrong numbers or transposing the digits.

You can keep submitting the fafsa, but until it matches they won’t process it so it’s doing no good.

Hi! Thanks for your answer! What I’m wondering now is, should I sign the FSA ID on the new FAFSA I submitted for next semester with the wrong SSN (that was returned to me) or start over with the correct SSN (and submit it again)? Thank you so much.

You have to use the correct one. If you can correct the one returned to you, make the correction. If not, start over. Your SSN on the FAFSA has to match the SSN on the FSA ID.
