I'm not interested in anyone telling me I should go to the University of Washington instead. That's not what I'm looking for. I would just like to know about the programs at both Washington State University and University of Idaho and which you recommend.

It won’t matter. Med schools won’t care. Go to whichever one you’d like and is affordable.

One of my sons went to U of Idaho, received multiple med school acceptances across country. Ended up at U of Rochester Med School and is now in residency. He worked in a profs research lab as undergrad, something to do with fish! Point is either school will serve you well but your success depends on you, getting involved in a research lab is one example, then you have something to show beyond your school work. In these schools getting involved is pretty easy. Good Luck.

I know it won’t make a difference to med schools, I think WSU has a separate medical college in Spokane and Uidaho has an agreement with U of Washington. So I’m not worried about how it looks to med schools. I’m just wondering about the general experience and how they compare to each other.

they’re both state schools…likely going to be very similar.

If you are not worried about the medical school info, you might check the college name threads to get details about each. If you are a resident of one of the states, I do believe you would pay OOS fees at the other, neither is worth those extra fees, especially with med school fees in the future.

As far as med school connections, both are part of UDubs WAMMI, but this won’t make any difference for UG. Agree w/somemom that if you’re paying the extra 50% tuition for an OOS WICHE school, that should be a factor.

As far as a place to live, most people prefer Moscow to Pullman IMO (full disclosure, I was a Vandal for 2 yrs). Other than that, it may depend on your major and if it is stronger at one of the schools. The students these schools attract and other academic features are not hugely different.

I’m a Californian resident. I think a huge factor will be the financial aid packages I receive come Spring time. At first I was leaning towards WSU, but after talking to the Uidaho pre-med adviser, I might start changing my mind. I’m also applying to the honors colleges of both. We’ll see. I wish someone could tell me first-hand what the med experience at either college is like.

^I had a wonderful experience, but was a grad student, so likely a very different than as an UG.
