WUSTL chances?

Hi, I'm currently a junior in high school and curious about what my chances would be when applying to Washington University next year.

I have a 4.2 GPA (weighted) and am taking 3 AP's. I am an officer of my school's forensics club and cross country and track team manager. I play guitar and volunteer at an animal hospital on a weekly basis. I am also a tutor for American Youth Literacy Foundation and tutor unprivileged children who have trouble reading. I am a member of the St. Louis Children's Hospital Youth Council. As far as academics go, I am a member of the National Honor Society and have won gold and silver awards in the National Spanish Exam and received 12 credit hours for Spanish at a local university. I haven't taken ACT or SAT yet but I expect to be around a 30 for ACT. I have completed medical programs at both Washington University and St. Louis University medical schools and plan to take part in a research project at Washington University this summer.

Both my grandfather and uncle are graduates of Washington University (my cousin is also a medical technician there) and I live in Missouri, if that helps anything. A teacher of mine who is a Wash. U graduate also has offered to write me a recommendation letter. I speak Spanish fluently and Chinese pretty well.

So, what do you think my chances would be to get in to Wash. U? What do you think I should do to make my chances higher? Thanks!

I’m applying this year so don’t take my word for it, but I think your AP count is a little low; it wouldn’t hurt to self study a couple. What’s your unweighted GPA? Your ECs are fine.

I plan to take 3 or 4 more AP’s next school year. My unweighted GPA is 3.9.

3.9 unwieghted is good but WashU is in my opinion like Johns Hopkins, focused on academics more than the rest. Therefore getting those A’s in the 5 or 7 APs overall should be a good reason for them to keep on reading your application. Your weighted is weak but you can say something about it in your essay. Good Luck!
