WUSTL Class of 2017 RD Discussion

Pretty much. The waitlist is only used too fill the incoming class if Wash U’s projected yield is lower than expected. In 2010, more people than expected enrolled so the freshman class was large. They were cautious in 2011 and accepted fewer students; since their incoming class was going to be smaller, they took some people off the waitlist. It seems like in 2012 they eased up and accepted more students, so the freshman class was large once again.

If I had to guess, I’d say they’ll probably take students off the waitlist this year because the current freshman class is very big. That being said, they probably won’t take more than 100 people off the waitlist. Now why, you might ask, does Wash U waitlist thousands of people? No reason that I can think of. It seems silly to me. Regardless, you should treat the waitlist as a rejection at any school because your chances of getting offered a spot are very low–much lower than your chances of being accepted outright in the RD round.

^ Following the above pattern means that they will accept more in 2014 when I apply. :D

Lol I know it doesn’t mean that, but wishful thinking! :)

Admitted!!! Got the decision yesterday, and the great thing is that my bf also got accepted! (bme major)

Congratulations, ioz!!

Thanks! I seriously wasnt expecting it! Do you think its a good option?

FYI— for those of y’all who were accepted and applied, FA info is up. (:

they gave me $40,000 less aid than my FAFSA predicted… uhhh… either this is some sort of error or i can say goodbye to WashU… Dang :(

Call them and ask-- they seem willing to work with you (and previous history on this board suggests that they’ll do so). I was actually pleasantly surprised with mine-- middle-class family, and our award basically has us only paying a little above EFC (for personal expenses), and of course, I can take out loans if necessary.

^Same. Does anyone know whether 5.5k/year in loans is significant? I would really like to avoid loans if possible. Also, does accepting work study automatically mean you get a job, guaranteed?

And did anyone else get some weird merit-esque scholarship? I have “Eliot scholarship” but I don’t know what that means.

Kinda disappointed.

Yeah, I’m going to wait a couple days and then call, cause I should be getting my package from MIT here soon so maybe I’ll have a bit more bargaining power. idk.

I am very pleased with my financial aid package.

If you accept the work study then you are obligated to pay that amount towards your costs - regardless of whether you actually find a job or not.

The amount of aid I received is over 20k less than my EFC on FAFSA (and it’s all work study/government loans)…Should I be concerned?

What is the acceptance rate this year? If they had over 30,000 applications and accepted less than last year, it seems like it would be around 13-14%.

S got accepted last friday. No financial aid. Did not show any interest (no interviews or site visit). Will post stats in the other group. Did not make medicine program.

Does every college have their Deans of Admission hand sign rejection letters or is it just WUSTL?
Its alllooooot of letters to sign.
