This has been a crazy week for me. Yesterday I found out that I was both a Monroe Scholar (research grant) and a William&Mary Scholar (full ride) to the College of William and Mary. Today I found out I got wait-listed by Washington University in St Louis (which i then quickly reserved a spot on the waitlist). My question is such: Should i continue to pursue WUSTL or be happy of where I am right now

So Far
Accepted: University of Hartford, Virginia Tech, W&M (full ride)
Waitlisted: WUSTL
Waiting on: Columbia, Baylor, UVA, Boston College, Drexel, UPenn

The waitlist varies from year to year, but last year WUStL didn’t accept any students off of the waitlist. I’d advise you to wait for March 30th to hear from Columbia and Penn; a waitlist at WUStL means that you’re competitive for Ivies (they waitlist overqualified applicants who show little interest and will probably matriculate elsewhere, in order to increase yield and ranking). Ivies offer great financial aid for low and middle income families, so you may want to wait around for to see your offer. Good luck!

Personally, though I didn’t apply to either, I think it sounds like you’ve got a better set-up at W&M than you would at WUSTL. If you really prefer the latter, if can’t hurt to send them a letter of continued interest. Tell them (1) why you’re qualified, (2) what WUSTL can do for you (why you’re interested), and (3) what you can do for WUSTL (what you would bring to campus, why they should be interested). These, at least, seem like the most reasonable criteria to me.

Good luck with the other schools.

Not necessarily. By the numbers (SATs, class rank, etc.) WUSTL is more selective than several ivies and is very competitive with Columbia and Penn.

I’d say wait and see how it plays out; who knows what will happen? Congrats on your achievements so far!

thanks everyone so much for their opinion

and Yeah i am definately waiting for UPenn, UVA, and Columbia
Because they all have amazing financial aid options but as of now W&M is up there

Would you pick WUSTL over William and Mary if taken off the waitlist? Personally, I think the W&M deal sounds better.

I was waitlisted too at Wash U. I got into Notre Dame and received some scholarship from University of Illinois too. I am not responding to the waitlist just yet I want to see where else I got in first.
