Xmas Gift for Dorm?!

Does this seem normal to anyone? Someone gave me $8 worth of tools with a hammer, screw driver, wrench, nails for my dorm. I am only a HS Junior and I am already thinking, you can't just destroy your dorm with these tools. You also take into consideration, that some of these things can be considered as a weapon.

What are your thoughts?

None of those will destroy a dorm room. Anything could be a weapon.

Sounds like a very practical and thoughtful gift.

seems like it would be much more than an $8 gift, too.

It does seem a little early for a college gift. You have a good year and a half to go.

Tools are always useful, but you can’t drive nails into a dorm room wall unless you want a big fine at the end of the year.

Don’t want them? Sell them on ebay.

I think its a bit early, and maybe a less-than-interesting gift (its something I’d probably think to buy just before moving into my dorm), but not weird enough to ask about. Although, I guess that tells you what they expect you to do. How do they know you won’t commute to college? Or some other option?

Your fists can also be considered a weapon. I think that’s way too early if it’s intended to be for college, but other than that it’s useful.

My roommate has a huge tool kit, with a drill and bits as well as other stuff. No one has ever had a problem with it because she’s one of the calmest, nicest people I know. At my school, you’re generally allowed to have that stuff in the dorms as long as you’re not using it against the room policy (putting nails in where there shouldn’t be, etc.).
