y penn?????

i couldn’t find much to say about the y penn essay. pointers plz@@!!@!@!@!

"i want to bang hot chicks and let them give me oral pleasure, quack ers are cool and they get hot chics. BF is my homedawg. Peace out yo"

Faux, that was absolutely beautiful. I find myself inexplicably attracted to you...

You've just received some of the best advice ever posted on college confidential, Newby. Take it to heart.

bump seriously ppl

I think the "why ________" is one of the hardest essay prompts. We haven't actually been to the school and the stuff in the brochures do not truly represent the school. My "why penn" was a very hard essay to write.

that's the point!!! i don't really know much about it! i am international and have never been to penn!!! that's y it's so hard!

wow. i didnt know penn was famous on mars as well. whats your age in earthyears? lol

If you don't know why you are applying to a college, you may seriously want to reexamine your choice. There's got to be a reason you are applying there. Write about it.

The problem with us international students is that it is not easy to find a reason to apply to a particular college. We have to decide after listening to our friends or reading a magazine, and by getting information from people on this site. So Schwaby a reason why penn is good will be helpful for Newby.

exactly what 75357 said. We hear it from our friends, we see it on ranking and that's about it. I have to be honest: There isn't really much!! I really would like to go to Penn b/c of it's reputation, but I can't write about that! neither can i write about the Financial aid offered. All i can say is good professors and the campus has good locations.

i have no sympathy for people that cant find a non-generic reason for choosing Penn over any other ivy league school. cause thats precisely why they have that essay topic. everyone here seems really adamant and intent upon Penn but it makes me wonder why i am the only one on these boards that actually did their summer sessions for the past two years.

shortymxpx17. i think you shouldn't be too harsh. most of us internationals don't have the resources nor the opportunities to do as much research as our american counterparts. the campus visit, already that is something we seldom ahve the chance to do. we only rely on Penn's website (where everyone else go to) and rankings. alumni info if we're lucky. so pls try to be more considerate.

Well what do you expect us to say...the essay asks why YOU want to go to Penn, not why we want to go to Penn. We know why we want to go to Penn and I think anybody who has a basic knowledge of the school (and you can get through the site as well as their literature) and thinks about it for a while will come up with their own unique reasons for wanting to attend Penn. That said, there's nothing wrong with some uniformity in these essays. We probably all share the desire to go in Penn at least in part because of its prestigious academic reputation. Others may love cities, or the culture Philadelphia offers...do your own research. If you have access to the internet and a couple hours you can write an awesome "why penn" essay.

I'm living in Germany and when I have been in the states, I haven't been outside of the state of Texas. I can find plenty of reasons why I'm interested in a college, so that leaves no excuse for anyone else. You research a school, and it somehow has to catch your eye. Why are you applying to Penn and not the University of Alabama? Neither I nor anyone else on this board can answer YOUR "why" question.

So basically all you care about is prestige and money? Then write that all you care about is prestige and money. Write about how you want to go to a respected _________ (business/english/whatever) program. Write that your family's financial situation isn't that good and that a education at the university would be the best bang for the buck. We can't tell you what to write about. The essay is about YOU

Once again, if the only reason you are applying to a college is prestige, you may want to reevaluate.

Look, if you find yourself unable to write the Why Penn essay, you should really rethink why you are applying. Don't apply to a school that you haven't ever seen/don't know much about.

ahem.

Nahhh dude. i was one of the very very few people from Pennsylvania doing the program. lets see.... of my friends from the summer sessions...one was from Western Springs (ILLINOIS), a bunch from CA, a few from the Longisland area, Texas, Jersey, Maryland, Florida, one awesome guy that did precollege and is now in penn is from the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC (international students....yeahh) and umm yeah. for quite a few people it was their first time ever being in philly. and id say a good fifty percent of the kids that did precollege and applied ED got in.

;-) I did a program at Northwestern, and a good 90% of people were from the Midwest. I can't say how many of them were seriously considering NU as a first choice though... I wasn't.

-Z

hah. i was almost considering applying to northwestern but i wasnt really sure how great of a school it was..... but penn is definitely the type of place that you fall in love with if youre there for any extended period of time.

You can research on the penn website. I'm from Texas and I researched a lot. Drop in professors' names, mention the Kellys Writers House, senior research project, etc.
