Stupefy, you’re not the only tennis fan here :]
Personally I’m a fan of Sharapova, Ivanovich and Cornet. Bartoli’s fine too, but she hasn’t been high-profile lately. I got her autograph at Pilot Penn
…Not a big fan of Wozniacki (yet? lol)—you’re right, she’s not much fun to watch on the court. I don’t like Serena but at least her games are interesting!

^you like ana ivanovic?! she’s TERRIBLE!! she’s done nothing good for the past two years. what a waste. she is adorable though, and seems really sweet. Serena’s a beast- best player on the WTA right now for sure. her matches are always exciting, and I personally don’t mind her arrogance (it’s well founded ;))
my favorite right now is probably Vika Azarenka. she’s hilarious

Serena is probably the most annoying person I’ve ever met. She’s throws fits all the time, and she talks down to everyone. Ivanovic at least has a personality.

Hey, Ivanovich has a great backhand AND she has only recently been slipping in performance! Anyways, women’s rankings fluctuate like crazy, the players are usually so inconsistent! (Take Sharapova)
Anonymous–arghh yes, her tantrums. Beast. In both good and bad ways!

Sure, but tennis is a sport after all. judging by athletic ability, serena dominates. I don’t care what you say about her temper, just look at her cabinet full of grand slam trophies!

Lol there’s no denying Serena dominates, but she could at least have some respect for others on the court, her outbursts are uncalled for! Yep, I get that athletes are easily riled up during intense matches, but the best kind of winner (or any player at all) has good sportsmanship too.

ahhh i wish that henin-hardenne hadn’t retired so suddenly. she was the federer of the WTA during her time.

Henin is back though! She’s playing Aussie open :)

Just saw her match against Ivanovic - she’s looking good! (she won)

@Demiitasse - Everytime I want to say something, I look at the thread and realize that you’ve already said it!

I agree. Sure, Serena is an amazing “athlete” in the sense that she has trophies. Trophies melt in the microwave though. She should learn to be more kind to her opponents. Everyone knows she’s good. She doesn’t need to be so arrogant and lose her temper all the time.

its not hard to win against ana ;)

true, guys, about serena’s attitude. but honestly, if I’m going to watch a match, she better be in it. she’s such an exciting player to watch! which is also why I like to watch azarenka (her emotional breakdowns are also entertaining :))

on the men’s side- I HATE FEDERER. nadal is my fave, followed my jo-willy tsonga! he’s the man. on an unrelated note, marat safin is hot. idk how he and dinara are even related

Not a 2014 hopeful anymore, but I just had to say: Serena is HORRIBLE. Ditto on her anger management issues and beast like nature. She’s good because of her muscles!!! All strength and tries to overpower every opponent. That’s not what tennis is about!! Henin truly was one of the greats. A tiny girl who used her brain for strategy and mixed in volleys with down the lines and underspin!!! All the other she-men just try to slam the ball as hard as they can instead of trying to hit winning angle shots!!!

wow, serena might have anger management, but she does play very well. and I agree with Stupefy, Nadal is awesome!!! but I think that Federer also plays well and I love his attitude

sorry to take this off-track - but I’m watching Berdych vs. Belluci right now - Berdych is soooo cute!

@collegestress- it’s a different playing style. most people admire serena (her playing) because she has incredible strength and athleticism. she’s big, but man she can move! and that serve is just insane

24 hours and no post. We are slacking Yalies!

I guess I’ll try livening up the thread. :)

Hey guys! Yale’s one of my first choices (Stanford being the other), although I’m not sure how good my chances are. I’m hoping to enter as a Japanese major. Is anyone else applying for military scholarships?

:) I would have posted before but I know nothing about tennis players.

Japanese? That sounds really interesting! Why did you choose that major?
I’d love to learn Japanese someday, too.

Well, I’m on my fourth year of taking Japanese at high school, and I really enjoy the culture as well as the language. I definitely suggest giving it a try if you ever have the chance of learning!

Did anyone see Sigourney Weaver wearing a Stanford shirt in Avatar? I thought she went to Yale.

^I thought that was a super cute touch in the movie! She went to Stanford AND Yale (Stanford for undergrad, then Yale School of Drama) :]
