Thanks hb30…I know it seems a little bit neurotic but I heard that colleges put the most weight on junior grades and it mights be a little bit anxious. I’ve heard horror stories of straight-A 2400-wielding applicants getting rejected and it makes me a little bit antsy. Besides, as someone else says, it’s less than I year before I have to bring all of my application materials together…

AWW LOOK AT ALL THE N00bs!!! It feels like the first day of the school year with all the tiny new kids arriving with their gigantic backpacks.

nolagirl - You’re absolutely right. Many straight A 2400-wielding applicants DO get rejected. That’s because Yale looks at your application holistically and takes everything about you into account, including your extra-curriculars, essays etc. Just because you have good grades doesn’t give you an automatic acceptance. Over 20,000 people apply to Yale… you need to work hard and set yourself apart from everyone else.

But like others have mentioned, you guys have a long way to go before you have to think about this. It’s great to be prepared. But just don’t obsess about it, you don’t want to waste the last years of high school worrying about college, it’s not worth it. Enjoy everything you have and make the most of every opportunity. Work hard, play hard :)

But feel free to hang around and ask questions, we’re a friendly bunch over here!

As others have said, it still appears to be a little early for you to worry much about college. Don’t get too obsessed too soon! In any case, though, good luck to all!

I’m just worried that there’s really nothing to set me apart…except for the fact that I love Yale (but doesn’t everyone who applies?)…

@nolagirl
what was your SAT score?

You guys are going to put yourselves through a lot of agony. This is way too early to have a thread. Trust me. Enjoy high school while it lasts. College apps suck. Waiting for decisions sucks. Avoid it for as long as possible!

^Agree 100%. I didn’t know I was def applying to yale until summer and didn’t start worrying about applications until October. So please, go enjoy yourselves while you can :)

Oh, I realize that I came off as meanish in my last post. I’m really not trying to belittle you guys. I understand that Yale is awesome, and I think it’s amazing that you guys are so prepared. But seriously, sitting around and waiting for college decisions to come is one of the most painful experiences of my life.

High school would be infinitely many times better without college applications/college thoughts.

I agree that this thread is definitely too early, but I decided on Yale SCEA within my first month of freshman year. So yeah, I’m a hopeful.

I’m out here, too! SCEA, more than likely…

See you guys on next year threads

With 2014 RD out of the way, let’s move on to the new year. Judging from the number of eager 2015 hopefuls I’ve already talked to in private, people, like always, are preparing early this year. One thing I’d like to see reversed this year is the trend, for recent years, in nosediving admission rates. Srsly, it was at a healthy 18.4% just 2 years ago (class of '12). Now it’s not even at 10% Anyway, who here is planning to apply SCEA for the class of 2015?

Let’s hope we all get in :)

It’s never too early to prepare~I’m a girl from China and I’m planning to apply SCEA for the class of 2015. With love so deep for Yale, I’m trying hard. Good luck to all of us!

It’ll be worse for you guys, because of this, amongst other things.

I can’t even express how happy I am that this awful, awful process of applying to college is finished for me. :)

Good luck to all of you!

Merging into earlier thread.

I just want to tell all you 2015 hopefuls to really not look into the numbers so much. I got accepted to Yale and Columbia. However, I got waitlisted from other ivies that have higher percentages (Dartmouth, Brown). It just shows you really shouldn’t focus on the percentages but just apply and do your absolute best on your essays. Good luck to everyone! Try not to worry so much, especially so early! Easier said then done though… haha

^ Numbers matter a lot contrary to some popular beliefs around here.

Of course, you will always have plenty of applicants with less than impressive objective stats but those are usually URMs, underrepresented geographic areas, athletes, dev. cases etc.

I’m deciding between SCEA to Yale and Stanford next fall but I’ve still got a lot of SAT II and AP scores to churn out before this year ends.

I wasn’t referring to test scores. Sorry for not clarifying. I am talking about acceptance rates. I know test scores do matter a lot. However, also there is so much more to your application than your scores. There are quite a few people with fantastic test scores who don’t get in, because that is all they had to their app.

hello! yale 2015 scea hopeful here =)

Yale Hopeful! Most likely applying SCEA, despite all odds :(.
I’ve wanted to go to Yale since middle school, but hey - everyone else probably does too.

Good luck to everyone! Only a few more SATs and AP exams left…

hey fellow 2015 yale hopefuls!
i cant decide whether im going to apply SCEA. it would be amazing if i were to be accepted. but if i wasn’t i would feel pretty depressed.
