Yale 2015 SCEA Applicant Stats Comparison

^Yep. Test-taking is done. Applications are in. Nothing left to do but wait (except for those of you who still have to interview; BE NERVOUS, it could ruin your chances!).

I feel terrible for even applying, I’m told they heavily depends on SAT’s and I’m not even close. I have a 1530 combined, and a 3.78/4.0 gpa. I’m ranked 14/113. Should i not even bother? I’m going to be one of the first people from my school ever applying to Yale, I guess there was a reason for that.

There’s always a chance! I have this naive notion that Yale views cultural difference (not referring to race here) as a better indicator than test scores. If it helps, I totally bombed the SAT subject tests and my ACT is really bad compared to the others on this thread (got a 30 which is the lowest score in Yale range). I’m the first person to apply to Yale at my school too, I think I’m setting myself up for disappointment but there’s a chance. So I’m really rooting for you!

quick question. i had an on-campus interview. any1 else??? and if so, did u get a normal interview as well?

1530/1600 or 1530/2400?

p2diddy - I had an on-campus interview in August and an interview with an alumnus two weeks ago (actually we had one hour to meet during a free period at school, but that wasn’t enough so I met him again last week during the same free period).
So yes I got both which is great because my second one was muuuuch better :)

i’m going in guns blazing with a 29 on my act, 3.916/4.0 gpa, good ecs, decent essays, and hopefully good recommendations. hoping for the best! woop woop

p2diddy-I had an on-campus interview in August with a senior and just had an alumni interview last week. I honestly didn’t think I’d get both, especially since my area (Las Vegas) isn’t one of the most popular areas of the country, but guess I got really lucky. :)

SAT: 790/800/750
SATII: Math 2 - 800
SATII: Literature - 740

Class rank: 9 / 588
GPA: 5.4208 weighted / ~3.9 unweighted

Come on now, no one will reasonably apply to Yale with a 1530/2400. Even athletes are held to a higher standard than that.

read his post again and you will see its a reasonable question. firstly, who applies to yale with 3.78 gpa? furthermore, his (her?) sat is described as “not even close”…1530/1600 is not “not even close”.

A 3.78 is an A- average, which is really good. On this board we sometimes get a little bit elitist, and ti’s good to keep in check.

A 3.78 is definitely lower than an A average.

this post scares the living daylights out of me, but…
SAT: 2220 - Math: 700 (ugh), CR: 750, Writing 770
SAT II: French 780, Bio M 780, Math I 730 (again, ugh)
AP: 5s on World, Bio, Lit, US, French. 4 on Physics B. Currently enrolled in 5 more
GPA: 98.25/100 or ~3.9 UW, weighted not released to students. never less than an A.
Rank: 1/270

Will any of this redeem my test scores that i was previously proud of but about which i now feel extremely meh? Great on-campus interview, fantastic alumnus interview, lots of ECs, great teacher recs, participation in highly selective gov’t study abroad scholarship program, unofficial baby-alpaca-life-saver, nationally ranked french student, legacy (but the latter didn’t help my sister get in, although i have higher scores than she did).

Sorry for the combo-breaker–I’m not applying to Yale and was just perusing this thread in idle fascination–but I’m an international studying at an international school, and the year before last we had a Yale admit with a ~3.7 GPA and 2140 on the SAT. (She was the only student from my school who got into Yale that year, and some of the other applicants were much more impressive on paper.) Which I’m only bringing up to remind you that even the most selective schools sometimes eschew their own objective criteria to admit an exceptional candidate. Don’t be so rigid.

I never implied that someone with a 3.78 would never get into Yale. All I wrote was that it’s lower than an A average.

Logloleptic! I got the same SAT score as you!
SAT: 2220 770: math 740: CR 710: Writing
SATII: 790: US History 750: World History 710: Literature
APs: 5 US 5 World 5 Lit 4 Lang
GPA: 4.0 or 5.4
Rank: 2/630

Forget “the Apprentice”…here comes “the Applicant”. haha :P

^Haha!
If they made a show called “The Applicant,” I would definitely watch it.

… actually, I’m pretty sure a reality TV show following aspiring students through their senior year in HS could be popular.

i don’t know what to believe anymore. at the yale info session, we were directly told that gpas > sat scores in the admissions process, but the only two people to be admitted in the past two years from my school had 2400s… they obviously had great ec’s & stuff too, but so did tons of other people (with higher gpa’s), so yeah… shrug
