Yale 2016 SCEA Discussion Thread

My interviewer made me love Yale even more (I didn’t know that was possible)! He basically confirmed everything I loved about Yale, and then added his own personal stories to it.

Apparently his wife and I like the same books and activities and eat the same things at the same restaurants. My interview definitely felt much more like a very intellectual conversation with a best friend. We talked about things ranging from Myers-Briggs to sex-ed in 3rd world countries to the American Dream, simulating what I hope would be a typical dinning-hall conversation at Yale. I taught him some things, he taught me some things. It was overall very friendly.

In the end he said that I would love Yale and that Yale would love me. I’m not going to take the second part of that very seriously though. I’ll let the admissions people decide that…

Got my interview for November 30 yesterday. I heard interview reports were due on December 1, just wondering if anyone else has gotten such a late interview?

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

How many other people submitted arts supplements, and what types?

My interview is also for Nov. 30. It was supposed to be two days ago, but the guy had to reschedule because he forgot he was going out of town for Thanksgiving…

I submitted a piano supplement :slight_smile: Not the strongest part of my app, but I’ve been playing for over 10 years and I’m pretty good so I figured it wouldn’t hurt. What type did you submit, sfaitht7?

Also, yesterday was the first day I fully realized that decisions were coming out in less than three weeks and basically freaked out. Much as I love the other schools I’m applying to RD, I love Yale more and it would be awesome to know sooner rather than later.

@Qualitative: what did u play for the supp ?

@qualitative, I submitted piano too! I’m afraid it wasn’t my best because I was rushing to learn pieces for different apps too because I was too short-sighted to look at that before… :/

@sfaitht7, I’m sure it’ll be fine. It’s just one part of your app, right?

And I ended up playing Chopin’s minute waltz and a prelude by Gershwin.

So… What does everyone plan on majoring in?

@Qualitative: Chopin’s Minute Waltz is beautiful <3

I finally got an interview! Monday with a well-known lawyer in my city right after school lets out. :)

@lolToasty, congrats and good luck! My interview was with a Proctor & Gamble brand manager.

@benfranklin1, I listed Biology as my 1st choice. :)

@allnighter: Same! I may try to double major in biology and Chinese… or Spanish. :). Are you pre-med?

I listed Biomedical engineering as mine. Was split between that and normal bio but decided to write the extra engineering essay so they would have to spend more time on my app haha. I hope it pays off.

BTW, I am not doing premed.

My interviewer had just finished law school so it was not very intimidating.

@benfranklin1, I’m fluent in Chinese, too, haha. Yes, I am pre-med. I’m also applying to quite a few dual BS/MD programs. Then again, my pre-med mindset is definitely not set in stone since I haven’t had much chance to explore other fields during high school… Hm.

@ender94, Ooh, that’s a clever way to fit in another essay. :stuck_out_tongue: I am taking my first physics class this senior year, so I probably don’t have enough engineering knowledge/experience to write one though.

Can I now assume that I’m not going to get an interview? :’(
I’ve already gotten one from a school I applied RD to but no Yale SCEA

@Allnighter- Ya I have a lot of experience that I was able to talk about. It wasn’t the most cohesive essay because it had to address a couple different things but I also turned it into another why yale essay.

@ UM32194- well loltoasty just got contacted for an interview today I think so maybe not. I think it’s very unlikely though seeing as the reviews are due December 1.

Only 4310 early apps compared to 5257 last year! That’s an 18% drop. It should be interesting to see what Yale does.

D-18!

10char

I can’t help but keep wondering how many spots are open for unhooked applicants T^T
