Yale 2022 Applicants Discussion

curious parent, how Yale interview process works viz a viz Harvard alumni interview for RD?

Hi @PPofEngrDr Not sure I understand your question…

someone from my school was admitted last night (don’t know if it was via email or phone call). she is a varsity athlete, so im assuming that’s why.

@oldladyandmom , my DS had Harvard alumni interview 2 weeks back f2f in metro area. Wonder about Yale interview process as i am seeing quite a few applicants are getting interview but no other details.

@PPofEngrDr it will be an alumni contacting your son and setting up an place to meet - my son’s was in a coffee shop it was very casual - but we knew that his file had been already under scrutiny for a couple of days…

Heard of 2 RSI students that received likelies as well.

I just got my Yale Class of 2022 shirt in the mail today–it is so awesome! I am a big fan of the fourteen residential college crests on the back.

Wow congrats on becoming an official Yalie !

@Benji3025 congratulations. Certainly appreciate if you can share info, like Early/RD, college/major, ACT/SAT/Rank, region etc…

Is there anyone else who has not received invitation for interview yet?

yep

@PPofEngrDr You can find my official results post in the 2022 SCEA thread, but I applied (and was accepted) single-choice early action with an intended major in statistics/data science. I have a 34 C ACT, 1/106 rank, 4s and 5s on a few APs, etc., but what I truly believe distinguished me from the rest were my essays (I didn’t hold back from sharing my quirky self) as well as my LORs. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Best of luck to all in the admissions process… and don’t get too caught up in the likely letters! (P.S.–I’m on the east coast and I didn’t have many major awards)

@Benji3025 thanks for sharing info. I am parent of RD applicant and it is overwhelming to keep up pace with everything. DS is waiting for interview and from Mid-West. His credentials are similar to yours except he is ranked 1 among 6 times your class size. I agree that credential is just initial filter and what differs applicants from others is extra activities and how well you represent yourself in essays. As an immigrant parent, Ivy league is a dream for me, of course ultimately it would be his choice and decision.

For anyone wondering about likely letters, they’re generally for kids who’ve done significant work in a STEM subject - usually research, but sometimes other things (ie olympiads). Most of the likely kids seem to have done well with STS, RSI, Siemens, etc.

Some more details here: https://seas.yale.edu/news-events/news/top-stem-applicants-share-their-yale-spirit-yes-weekend

Also, keep in mind that if you don’t get one of these, that does NOT mean you won’t get in RD. The majority of STEM kids do not get in through likely letters.

Is it weird I’ve been contacted by every school I applied to for an interview expect Yale? FYI I live in an area that has ample alumni.

Same here

Me too!
