Is there a screening process for Yale interviews or a threshold they want u to cross, or does anyone get an interview
Check out this helpful thread by @BKSquared http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/yale-university/2046409-yale-interviews.html#latest
I read that Yale claims 25% of assets under a students name, is this true and what exactly does it mean?
If you’re receiving FA, yes.
Exactly what it says. Students applying for FA with assets are expected to contribute to the tune of 25% of their assets annually.

What if the parents want to pay for the whole thing after getting financial aid, then does the student have to contribute 25% of his assets?
The Student Asset Contribution is a subset of the Expected Family Contribution. If the student’s parents decide that they wish to cover the student contribution, or otherwise juggle the components of the EFC, they are certainly free to do so. Yale only cares that they get the check for the EFC.
Thank you! Sorry, last question. Let’s say that the year you applied to Yale you didn’t apply for aid, but can you apply for aid and get aid for your sophomore, junior, and senior years?
Don’t try to game the system; if you need aid to attend, you need aid, so let’s not get into “what ifs.” Yale is need-blind and meet full demonstrated need for all applicants. So if you need FA, apply for FA as it will not impact your chances for acceptance. If financial circumstances change, that’s obviously a different conversation.
I’m just asking if financial circumstances change bc the industries my parents work at, people are always getting layed off, and I am very sorry since I didn’t state that clearly.
Are STEM likely letters still being released? Or is that done?
The YES weekend is in two weeks…
@grundeis it was moved to April.
So can we still expect LIKLEIS to com’e?
@grundeis yes
The Yale YES website states that it was sponsored by only the following departments:“Biomedical Engineering, Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science”
Since I am applying to the geophyscs department, does that mean that they aren’t even gonna try to bring me to the YES weekend?
@grundeis probably not. i’m also sure they have likelies for other (i.e. non STEM) applicants who they want.
How many waves does Yale send out for STEM liklies. If we are done with Wave 1, how many spots do you think are left?
Also curious…
Don’t worry about the likely letters. Plenty of STEM majors (in fact, the majority of STEM majors) get in without a likely letter. As I said before, likelies usually go out to kids who have strong indications that they’ll get into other schools based on prior academic competitions and programs (RSI, Siemens, STS, published research, etc). If you get a likely, congrats! If you don’t, then just chill out a bit. Spend your time relaxing, and then in March you’ll find out if you got in.
Does Yale send likelies only to STEM applicsnts? Last year some non STEM applicants got some. Wonder when those will go out.
I got a likely today (technically yesterday, but just managed to call back today LOL) but I was also a questbridge applicant who got matched to another college (which Yale knew) which I think factored heavily into it!! Though I am STEM, I heard an art major has also been contacted for a likely!!
(also, I am in so much shock right now omggg)
