Who gets into Yale with low SAT scores aside from recruited athletes, legacy applicants, and developmental cases?
If one has extenuating circumstances in their additional info section that contributed to bad grades, does Yale actually take those into account?
Iām so glad I found this discussion, I am an international student from India applying to Yale. The problem is that I know I wonāt get in because another girl from my school is a legacy sooooooā¦
It helps that I have a forum to bawl and let my angst out :-S
@hi2023 plenty of people have low SAT scores and high ACT or vice versa. My son is in that category. He took the SAT once, during the school day, didnāt study for it, and had a bout of stomach flu. He actually studied for the ACT and got a much better relative score. In the highly unlikely event that he gets in, his lower SAT will be there on the scattergrams to give false hope to students in future years.
Fortunately Yale only requires all scores from one of the tests. That should give students enough leeway to figure out which test works best and focus on that, thus minimizing the number of retakes. Thatās a great strategy for getting into any school, not just Yale.

@tmc4365 all the recognition (awards, etc) you have received over the years is a big plus, good GPA, you seem to take all of the opportunities presented to you, Iād say your application was probably actually considered thoroughly and you have a chance at getting in- but no one here will know for sure (until December 14th) because even amazing valedictorians get deferred or rejected. But, good luck! hoping for the best for you!
Sorry a bit late to the party. Was wondering how the response was for Interviews for Early Applicants in the Southern United States. My kid submitted his EA on 30 October and on 1 November he was contacted for an Interview. What is the average turnaround time for scheduling interviews for EA?
@Plssendhelp hi Iām from my India too(Bangalore)!
@Plssendhelp did u apply EA?
@WhosYourMommy Hi! yes, I applied early! And I was born in bangalore too!!!
@ParentOf2019Grad hi, I think the turnaround is as soon as possible, the interviewers are advised to send in their reports by December 1st, so I think as soon as they have people to contact they do.
Who else is hype to have a breakdown next Friday #7days yeeeeeet
@njru3764, LOL! Trying to prepare myself ā¦ UGH
anyone from ct??
Iām a QB Finalist but I didnāt match colleges so I could use my QB app to apply to Yale SCEA. Thereās a thread here if you look up 2018 QuestBridge results to see all of the finalists who matched, Iāve seen a few that were matched to Yale
I am doing the same thing. Good luck!!
@popcorn454 please check your inbox. Thank you!
@Parentof2019Grad Iām from KY and applied SCEA, and I was contacted for my interview on November 14. I believe the deadline for interviewers to turn in their reports was 12/01/18, so as long as the interview occurred prior to that date, there shouldnāt be any issues.
@jeopardy2001 Iām also from KY! Good Luck!
