Does Yale send any likely letters for SCEA applicants? Results just 2 weeks away so if they do send some people must be receiving now. Has anyone in this forum got a likely letter? for SCEA 2024 admissions
Only likely letters in fall are for recruited athletes.
My daughter applied SCEA. I didn’t realize an exact date was on the portal. Can you confirm? I am trying not to ask her too much so I don’t stress her out. I’m so nervous for her.
Also, I know interview doesn’t make or break but… Question. I’d say she has a strong application (although compared to others stats here I am not as sure now.)
However, her interviewer said they don’t usually write recommendations but were going to strongly recommend admission. Is this just something they say or does this sound more promising? Any thoughts??
I’m an international applicant, I didn’t receive an interview but I did an on-campus interview before. Do it means that I will not be admitted?
@Bozi97 The dates application and other documents (transcript etc.) received are on the portal.
The interviews don’t make huge dent on the admissions but positive interviews adds to the overall package.
Please ask her not to put all her hopes and dreams on one school. It is a beginning of their future not an end in itself. If she gets it, great but be ready for rejection.
@AngelCUI No! It does not mean that.
@Bozi97 , Yale interviewer here. Sounds like your daughter had a great interview. However to temper that a bit, there are 2 main parts of our interview report. One part is an unstructured narrative of how the interview went with our observations on certain qualities that the AO is looking for. See the thread I started on Yale interviews which calls out those qualities. The second part of the report asks us to grade the candidate based on set categories. Implicit in those categories is whether or not we believe (and how strongly we believe) the candidate is a fit for Yale. Perhaps this interviewer rarely puts a recommendation opinion in his or her narrative, but we are all supposed to provide our opinions of how strong we feel the candidate is.
@BKSquared somewhere I saw you mention that at the end of your narrative report there are check boxes to rate the applicant. What are the criteria and the possible values? Like do they ask:
Will this student look good in blue?
Absolutely — Maybe — Red is their color
It’s a descending ratings choice. There are 2 ratings that I would consider very positive and then it goes down from there. The highest rating is basically the kid is the Second Coming. The second ranking is
“Outstanding. This was a memorable interview. The candidate was impressive and would contribute significantly to the undergraduate community at Yale.”
A Blue color scale may not be a bad idea!
My son just had an interview today after receiving the request by email this Monday. I am not reading into it at all.
The interviewer spent almost an hour with him, which was very sweet. I am thankful for this no matter how the admission result would turn out.
@HJHerrick what instrument are you applying BA/MM for? It depends on the instrument for the year when you apply. Did you get invitation for audition? If you are invited for audition, you might have chance to be considered for BA/MM. However, even though you are not considered for BA/MM, Yale College can still accept you if they thought you were the best-fit applicant. Best of luck!
Does anybody know if it’s possible that Yale might move up their SCEA admissions results date? Because I know Stanford moved their date to be earlier by a week.
no
I heard that half of the YSPA students would be admitted to Yale. Is that true?
My school counselor is like sure that they’ll release results earlier. But obviously she doesn’t 100% know.
@musicallover2040 I feel like they would have told us by now if they move up the day?
@kraylons calling BS. We can see that you posted the same comment on 3 different threads.
@kraylons --yes that is truly extraordinary that you got calls like that from Yale, Harvard and Duke all on the same day. Wow.
@kraylons wait omg that is insane i got a call from yale too! i actually couldn’t believe my own ears. CONGRATS!!! I’ve literally never been so happy in my life. I hope to see you there next year
@musicallover2040 This makes sense because (I think) most schools try to avoid releasing decisions on Monday so their offices aren’t flooded with calls the remainder of the week. Releasing them on Thurs/Fri ensures they’re unreachable for a few days after decisions come out. The portal still says Monday, though, and we haven’t gotten any updates, so we’ll see.
If you call the admissions office, the voice message says that decisions will be released on December 15th at 5 pm.
