Yale Book Award

Thanks for all the great responses, guys! Yes, there really is a Harvard Book Award luncheon, but it's on a schoolday, so not many of those invited go. Still, this year, you couldn't bring anyone else, even your parents, because of the event's "growing popularity."

Who gets invited? Only students in the Boston area? It sounds like it's put on by the Boston Alumni Club.

I believe that whether a school gives book awards depends not on the efforts of the school, but on the existence of a local alumni club, because it's the clubs that sponsor book awards. We live in Connecticut where there are lots of active clubs of Northeastern colleges, so, if I remember correctly, my daughter's public high school gave out Harvard, Yale, Penn, Wellesley, Smith, and Bryn Mawr book awards. I myself graduated from Wellesley and know that our local alumnae association sponsors book awards in a bunch of area high schools. But if you live in a small town out west, there are probably no clubs to sponsor awards. It has nothing to do with your high school.

i got the Yale Book award... and when the alum was reading out my accomplishments, my mom didn't recognize me. She was wonder who that person he was describing was. How... depressing

Its ok. My parents cant name off any of the classes i'm taking, nor do they know what extra curriculars I do. They just want to make sure I get into Yale (Riiiiiiight). Ugh, parents are such f u c k e r s

umm, guys, be nice to your parents! :)

haha teenagers reserve the right to hate our parents every once in a while

My (private, all-girls) school killed its book awards three years ago. Now they just give the "Women Leading" and "Women Learning" awards to two lucky juniors. Hee.

What an... honor?

It is an indicator of lousy character, either when one publically bashes/disrespects his parents, or when one does not know her kids well. One does not excuse the other.

kind of harsh?

Undoubtedly.

what is a book award?

Lousy character can encompass many things. Let's not impose our moral values on others. Some parents are awesome, others may simply be blindly wanting the best others are befuddled, and some truly do deserved to be bashed publicly.

Thank you haosquared. That is too many times not understood

I got the yale book award last year. Didn't apply to Yale tho (I was just accepted ED to Penn - Wharton School). Penn wipes the floor w Yale.
