Additional info-my school dosen't really feed into the ivies but we've had a few students go before. I live in Texas. I know 2 alumni from yale; one a politician and the other a law student. Either/both can write letters of rec.

Please be honest. Don't spare me my shortcomings.

The information you gave is brief (I’m not sure if you have an work experience, academic awards, etc.) but based on what you said I would think you had a decent to good shot as far as anyone’s chances at Yale are considered. You’re SATs are good and you’re URM status will help. Good luck!

As OhioMom said, the Ivies admissions people can be very unpredictable…
Judging by your scores and ECs, I say you have a decent chance of getting in.
I haven’t read your essay so I can’t judge, really…

^Agree, don’t try to have alumni pull strings for you, it will more than likely backfire.

I don’t do chances, but a couple of things that you didn’t address in your OP: is the gpa weighted or UW and did you take a demanding courseload compared to others in your HS?

thanks for the support! if you’re doubtful on the whole essay thing just private message me and i’ll send it to you. coincidentally, I’m applying to princeton too and the pres. of the alumni club in my city offered to write a letter of rec. Should i take it? I’ve known him for a year. Oh and my school dosent distinguish weighted or unweighted gpa (idk why)

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention; I’m a national achievement & merit scholar. Some small band awards and some small UIL competition awards. All of my classess are pre-ap except for band of course.
