the interviews are super casual, mine was a doctor in his 70s and we talked about politics, immigration, music and books, the guy saw Ray Charles live because Ray Charles and the Raylettes visited yale!

This dude’s an esquire!

I had my interview last night, and I’m from Southern Delaware. I was surprised any alumni from Yale would be even remotely close to where I live. The interview lasted about fifty minutes, and my interviewer was great. She asked some tough questions though, but very informative! I am so nervous for December 14th…

Philo, don’t worry at all. It’s a very casual thing. I wouldn’t even recommend preparing that much; it makes your answers sound very boring and rehearsed.

Some context: I’m not very good at interviews, but mine went extremely well. My interviewer planned to have the interview last an hour; it lasted 1.5 hours and the atmosphere was extremely relaxed.

haha it seems like my interviewer was the most “regular”
she was from the class of 02 and just graduated from law school…she was really nice, we laughed a lot during the interview

16 days! Just over two weeks people! So exciting. Although I am expecting to be deferred simply because of facing odds, as I’m sure many of us will be, and then we’d have to wait many more months :P

Most of us will be. It’s too bad, but it’s not a matter life or death. Whatever happens, happens, right?

Really, we’ll probably end up happy no matter where we go, but that doesn’t make it any less nerve-wracking!

“Whether I was denied, deferred, or accepted, I knew that if Yale were the place for me, the admissions committee would recognize that. If not, then I would receive a blessing in disguise.” <– this is the mindset I need

Oh, well that’s easy for him to say.

It really is kind of the mindset I need to get into. After all, if they don’t think I’ll fit in at Yale (and they’ve been admissions officers for years/decades and look at the choices they have to make each year to create a “pseudo-perfect” class), then who am I to say anything in return? Sure, I might think I’ll fit in, be an integral part of a thriving community. Sure, I’ll be disappointed (after all, who wouldn’t be?!). But if I don’t get into Yale, I won’t die.

The guy interviewing me. When I type the first part of his name and the first letter of his last name into google, his name is among those suggested.

Looks like we might talk about history a lot. Which is cool because I love history.

Strange, haha. The ASC director for my area was also a lawyer.

Haha.

And now, based on his participation in the Atlantic Legal Foundation, I know he’s probably a center-right Republican who likely opposes Yale’s race-sensitive admissions policies…

He was THE chair for his Yale Class’s 45th reunion. :S

My interviewer was THE chair for the Yale’s Class of '67 reunion.

This is really strange. Parallels :O

I guess Yale always has a special seat each year for their future ‘class reunion chairman lawyer’.

Being a reunion chair means one volunteered to help organize the reunion event. He/she is actively involved with his/her class – that’s all. You’ll see in 6 years when you get a FB invite to your HS 5-year grad reunion.

The interview isn’t a significant component in admissions right? For EA the essays and teacher/guidance recs are most important from what I’ve read on here so far, but correct me if I’m wrong

Not contacted for an interview. Should I be worried?
