@jackson61
The movie was terrible lolol. Don’t know about the book though, never really my type of genre. Haha

I got waitlisted at Northwestern so now I’m not feeling as great about my chances at Yale…sigh

@satsarecool, YOUR USERNAME! Are you sure you want to be saying that? And hey, keep positive, my friend in the UK got rejected from a 2nd rate safety school and got into Cambridge, so you never know ;)

If it’s one area of history I’m absolutely clueless on, it’s American History. I know their role in the world, and a little about the revolution, but I’m so lost on the rest.

Cloud Atlas was strange, not my kind of move.

@satsarecool I got wait listed by Northwestern but accepted by MIT and UChicago, so anything’s possible. Don’t give up; NU could’ve just been trying to protect their yield from overqualified applicants!!

@midnightdreary Yeah, I’m not feeling so down about it. They could be trying to protect their yield, or every college could be looking at applicants in a different way. I guess I could have expressed more interest…
All I know is I still have 7 decisions coming next Thursday, so we’ll see how that goes :)

@satsarecool At least you got waitlisted! I got outright rejected by Northwestern and waitlisted by UChicago… so dunno what my chances are for Yale. Actually, I do: 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000001%. At the most. ;)

@LAMuniv READ IT!! My God, I absolutely love it! (Sixsmith and Frobisher in Chapter 2! I won’t give anything away, but…
) And the trailer was just amazing. I’m DETERMINED to watch it now (@matrixsurgeon I have odd taste in movies; I have a feeling I might like this one…)

@jackson61 Alright, my dad is reading it right now, but I will definitely read it once he’s done, which should be soon.
Coincidentally, I just finished a book of which David Mitchell was a translator.

@LAMuniv What was the book called?

“The Reason I Jump” by Naoki Higashida. It’s a very short but very good book (nonfiction) from the point of view of a 13-year-old boy with autism. I actually found out about it after it was featured on The Daily Show one night

Oh hey, was in Japanese originally?
I really want to learn enough Japanese to be able to read complicated novels in the language; right now, I’m fairly fluent in conversation, but not so much in reading… I’ve decided that someday, I WILL read the original Japanese version of “The Tale of Genji” :)

Yes, it was in Japanese! Goodness, I am kind of obsessed with Asian culture (mostly Japanese and kind of Korean) so I would LOVE to learn, but it’s kind of daunting… watching anime has taught me a couple of phrases, but that’s just about it, haha.

THAT BOOOOOOK! I’ve been getting down to buying it since forever, and I’m failing badly. And good luck with your Japanese @jackson61! I wish I could actually speak it, because the best I can do is write down one alphabet and some simple words…

@LAMuniv haha surprisingly, I’m not a major fan of anime… I love Japanese history though :)

@astaff95 Thanks! Haha I can write hiragana - ひらがな - and katakana - カタカナ - but kanji - 漢字 - is somewhat more challenging @-)

@jackson61 I’ve found that many people aren’t; it’s okay
Yeah, I love Japanese history. Their folk tales are awesome, too. :D

Once I decided there was no way I could learn Japanese, I kind of started to learn a bit of Korean, which is surprisingly simple, actually…

Ooh, interesting! I’ve always thought that the Korean script looks really cool… :D

It is, for me, a lot easier than Japanese or Chinese because it has a standard alphabet, like the English alphabet. They just stack the letters so it looks like they’re characters, but they aren’t really so there’s a lot less memorization involved, which makes it easier for me.

@jackson61, I can only write hiragana, but I’m only just starting and I can’t wait to learn more. And ironically, a friend just sent me a text in Chinese ;)

Hey guys so one of my friends who lives in Texas already got her Yale decision…I thought that Ivies all had to release together next Thursday? And it wasn’t a likely letter either because it was a rejection. She said she was sent an email with a link to a portal with her decision…did anyone else get that? Or do you guys think it was just a mistake or something?
