Got my account too! Now the wait begins. What other schools did everyone apply to?

Got my Eli account as well!
@westofguam
If I were to tell you my whole list, you would think I am one crazy person! Summary is pretty much most of the ivies, top privates and few instate schools.

@matrixsurgeon it’s ok I applied to a lot too, about 14 I think. Around 4 top privates, 4 safeties and 6 ivies. I feel like such an ivy whore lol.

^^ My list is pretty extensive too… I hate telling people. I feel like an ivy whore too (7). But Harvard and Cornell aren’t my faves tbh. Yale and Princeton are my top 2 ivies.

Yeahh. I always answer “schools” when people ask me where I applied.

I was kind of forced into applying to a lot of my schools though, since my dad thinks only ivies, Johns Hopkins, and any school in Boston/Cambridge are legitimate schools #foreignparentproblems. Tbh I’m happy I applied to them all though because I do like them, those low acceptance rates are just really scary.

I got my Eli Account. Applied to 11 schools all up, only 2 ivies (Yale and Brown). Other top choice is Georgetown. Have my alumni interview next week! I was surprised they found one for me as I live in Australia. Looking forward to it though. Although reading my supplement essay I think I may have inadvertently portrayed myself in a bad light…what did the rest of you talk about for the supplemental essay?

^^^ What did you write about?

My essay was basically why I want to go into politics. Tbh it was taken from other supplemental essays and I just kind of pasted them together, but I think it turned out pretty well. I used it for Harvard too, so hopefully!

I applied to all the Ivies… I figure that if I’m a viable candidate then I have to get in somewhere, so why not maximize my chances you know?

It was probably ok, I may be over thinking it. I used my experience as an exchange student in France to talk about how I overcome my didactic attitude and anxiety issues I had as a young girl, and became aware of the multiplicity of things and value of people different from myself, using Paris as a metaphor as something dirty and violent (I don’t know if you’ve been to Paris, but it really is) that is still beautiful and offers so much to learn from. I’m confident it was well written and convincing, I just don’t know if you’re supposed to show a sign of weakness, I thought it was more realistic if I didn’t just talk myself up. I don’t know

Applying to a lot of reach schools is a smart idea. A LOT of people are great candidates for these schools but get will get rejected from at least one of them. Realizing this and applying to a lot is the way to go imo

As for rereading essays, I just try to stay away from that. I reread mine after submitting EA and found mistakes, which made me so sad So for RD, I’m just not rereading anything and hoping for the best :)

@summeraus

I believe SpoolMan wrote his/her essay about loving a sport he/she was terrible at (correct me if I’m wrong SpoolMan) and still got in SCEA. I also wrote about my weaknesses but got deferred. It is definitely ok to write about your shortcomings. Adcoms love these type of students who are unshaken by failure and persist despite the odds!

About how long does it take to get your eli account? For other schools I was able to log in to their accounts within 1-2 days.

@Marioandluigi Yeah, it’s definitely not bad to write about shortcomings. I tried to display a positive and slightly self-deprecating/light-hearted tone.

@KeDIX1414 I think within 2 weeks (call if it’s been 2 weeks).

@SpoolMan, agree that it’s not bad to write about shortcomings. Nobody can be perfect at everything, and it can show positive qualities to come to grips with a particular shortcoming. My son wrote an essay about it, and who knows if it helped him get accepted, but it surely didn’t keep him out.

I need your opinions, friends. So I’m more of an applying-to-yale-cause-my-parents-are-making-me-but-i-would-definitely-go-if-i-got-in-becaue-ive-secretly-dreamed-about-it kind of applicant.

I waited til the last minute to apply because of debating between applying and not applying, and since none of my other schools required SAT Subject Tests or the ACT I put them off. And now, I know I need one or the other for Yale and I’m quite worried about it. Is it totally insane to take the ACT Plus Writing in February? Will it be too late? The Yale site says that the scores won’t be guaranteed to be in on time, but I know I’d just plain do better on the ACT versus the SAT Subject Tests because of the nature of the tests.

I’m just sort of…panicked.

And I also don’t really have the money to pay for two subject tests on the late registration fee…

@martynail
Don’t worry. You will be fine. They say so on the website because they don’t want all the applicants to wait till February to take the test. They have thousands of applicants they can review so it is not like they are waiting desperately for your scores.

@my88keys What Ivy did you not apply to, if I may ask? Dartmouth? Just curious.

Have any of you guys had your interviews yet? I just got back from mine today and it was fantastic. I’m so excited. Even if I don’t get in (we’re all aware of the odds) the interview was a really good experience to have. I’d had a very poor, dry, and unfriendly interviewer for another Ivy I applied to (cough, no names, cough) and after today Yale became my number one dream school.

Good luck to everyone!

I have my Yale interview next Sunday at a local bookstore. I’m kind of looking forward to it. One of my classmates has his tomorrow.

@my88keys and @westofguam loling @ the term ‘ivy whore’. It’s good to know I’m not the only one.

I didn’t apply to Dartmouth. I didn’t really like that it was so isolated and that Greek life was so big there. I wasn’t going to apply to Cornell either for the same reason (though, Dartmouth is more rural than Cornell), but my dad wanted me to apply, so I did. Originally, I was applying to 5, but then Jan. 1, I sort of impulsively decided to add Columbia, and then Cornell came along.

I just found out this really amazing kid in my class applied to basically all the same schools as me. I’m not mad because they’re really awesome but now I can see my already miniscule chances dwindling…

@Violet :D. Good luck at your interview!

I have mine Thursday at the alum’s office.
