Yale Class of 2018 RD Discussion Thread

I had mine yesterday! It was really awesome, though I don’t think I have stellar chances at Yale as I’m one of those average above-average applicants. She said I was a “really good fit for Yale” at the end, so that’s a small plus I think. My Yale supp talked about my love of film and TV and how that has shaped my childhood and future. Sort of cheesy…oh well!

I only applied to three Ivies (HY…D) as I’m not a fan of the other ones.

Good luck all!

My daughter had her Yale interview yesterday and she felt it went really well. The interviewer was young- just a few years out of college- and came prepared with appropriate questions. It was too noisy in the coffee shop where they met so he suggested they take a walk which worked out nicely. After visiting Yale, and my daughter’s comments about this interviewer, it seems like they attract some very nice, down to earth people!

@westofguam thanks! did you have yours yet ?!?!?!

hey everyone!
I was accepted in SCEA to Yale and I completely forgot to put my stats out there… not that it should really matter anyways, but if anyone wants them I can post them on this thread (or another if one should direct me to an appropriate one)

Good luck to everyone, hope to see you in the fall!

@Violet nope. I haven’t even been contacted yet. I have my H and P ones on the same day though =-O

Just had my interview- prob the best one I’ve had (I’ve had 7 so far). The lady was super sweet, attentive, and said I’m wonderful and that I’ll do great at any university yay :slight_smile:
She also told me at the start that she was laid back. I had brought a folder with resumes in it but she didn’t ask about it till we were leaving, and asked if I had anything for her, she gladly took a resume.

@melanieu, congrats!
please post your stats here since the original SCEA topic has been locked/closed. Thanks.

I have my University of Pennsylvania interview tomorrow. I am still waiting on Yale and Harvard. Then I am done with all my college interviews!

Never got contacted for an interview anywhere lol I guess that’s what I get for living in the middle of nowhere

I was offered an interview and turned it down. Despite my success, I don’t suggest doing that.

They really can only hurt you, though.

Had my interview today and it went really well! Very relaxed and probably my best. I already got into Princeton and just applied to Yale for fun, but I am starting to like the university more.

hi all this is a really stupid question but…about what TIME (not date) do admissions come out? Just wanted to know what time it’d be in Taiwan when the decisions come out…

biovball - I would suggest you inform Yale you applied just for fun. It may very well increase your chances, don’t you think? Everyone loves fun.

09755149lan - 5am on 28th March (Same for all Ivies). Expecting to wake up on a foggy morning…then crying the hell out of myself whole day and virtually doing nothing :)

@ivyleaguefan I think it’s 5pm… 5 am logically doesn’t make any sense. and it’s the 27th, not 28th.

The portal went live around 5:05 for SCEA. They didn’t send an email, though. I ended up waiting like 30 minutes before I saw my decision (LOL).

@MikeNY5

Why do you think it’ll hurt you? My S had his a couple weeks ago and he loved his interviewer!!! A Neurosurgeon who did undergrad at Yale and Medic school at Columbia

BTW, what was your decision MikeNY5?

I’ve always viewed the interview as more valuable for than applicant than for the school. For hyper-selective schools like HYP, there are just too many applicants to put significant value into an interview. This is just what my school’s college counseling department has told me. If you get a glowing report from an alum interviewer, it doesn’t mean much. They are alumni, not admissions staff. There’s a reason for this.

On the other hand, if you tank the interview and are rude/unresponsive, that’s bad. With schools like yale, negatives are a lot more influential than positives (if that makes sense).

Also, I was accepted and will be taking my spot in the class of 2018.

I never interviewed, btw.
