Yale Class of 2019 SCEA Discussion Thread

@VSGPeanut101‌ Thanks!!

@minastirith: Please let me apologize. I did not know you actually LIVE in Pakistan. My quick reply to you was because I mistakenly thought you lived here in the USA and was alleging that Yale was purposefully not interviewing US Asian applicants yet. I reacted too quickly and posted w/o a clear understanding – best of luck to you.

@T26E4‌ No worries :smiley:

I’m in Beijing (China) and I still haven’t heard back yet… But then again it could depend entirely on when you submitted your app and I submitted mine on the 28th so that’s relatively late… (hopefully that’s all it is).

@flyingrainbows‌
i submitted mine on 31st…
Hopefully we could all get our interview notice soon ^-^
I think there should be a lot of alumni in Beijing and Shanghai

Just got my interview notice

Is there ANYBODY who didn’t get his/her ELI ACCOUNT? I submitted my Commonapp on last hours, and my counselor finished his work on 19th of November. PLEASE TELL ME will they consider my application for SCEA? I would very very appreciate if someone from USA could call the Admsision office for me. I can’t call them for various reasons and EMAILING will mean that I will have to wait for another 3-4 days before they give their response. If so,eone could help me with calling, PLEASE PM me!

@louisa2019er‌ which region are you in?

@louisa2019er‌ Did u get an email or a phone call for the interview?

@Eljui7‌ I suggest you contact the admissions office by email (even if it takes a few days to get a response; you should have done it before!). On Tuesday I sent an email (as I had a similar problem) and in the afternoon I received my Eli account and everything was in (even the October ACT scores!). Also, I suggest you explain your situation and ask if you are still considered a SCEA applicant.

@louisa2019er‌ which region are you in?

@wELLS14 I understood you but I was told to wait 3 weeks

However I have sent the message to Yale UA and really really hope that I will be considered for SCEA

@flyingrainbows

@minastirith‌

Would you mind sharing a list of the commonly asked questions during Yale alumni interviews? That would be really helpful to mentally prepare for what they will ask. Thanks!

Each interviewer asks their own questions. Be prepared to answer questions about why you are interested in Yale. This is more than just “Why Yale” but should be something that makes it stand out to you. Remember you are talking to either a student or alumni. We want to know you are applying to Yale, not the idea of Yale. It doesn’t have to be deep, but needs to come across as sincere. What sincere is purely personal so you can practice that.

Also, you don’t have to be really outgoing and over the top. I have had great interviews with quiet reserved applicants. But there has to be some conversation. Engage the interviewer. Ultimately it doesn’t matter what you talk about. I ask questions about your interests. About your favorite ECs. What are you looking for in colleges in general. What’s the last non school book you’ve read? What would your best friend say about you?

Then I end with asking if they have questions. In my mind, if they say no, it’s a problem. So go with a question or two. And please, not something you can get from the website like asking about average SAT scores or whether there’s a pre-med major. This is your time to ask your burning question. And, all your questions don’t have to show you’re smart. My daughter asked about their vegan options at meals.

Hope this helps.

My son was interviewed by a Neurosurgeon, undergrad at Yale-Med school at Columbia. The “conversation” lasted about 2 hours and when I say conversation is because it was more than an interview. He asked my son to talk about his passions and travels and it went long…Great man, I had the opportunity to meet him once decisions came out and a meet and greet was schedule in our area for all admitted students. BTW, my son applied RD

My apologies, I just realized this is for SCEA. Sorry for posting here

It’s okay @Saona63‌ :slight_smile: Thanks for sharing your son’s interview experience anyway
