@VSGPeanut101 Eljui is nomadic dynasty of Khitan people who ruled over the Northern China during Liao Empire 907-1125. After it collapsed, and couple of thousands of Khitan people who previously lived in todays Manchuria moved to Central Asia. Here they defeated Seljuk-Muslim Sultan Sanjar and those couple of thousands of people conquered many places and founded new Empire. I am their descendent. My profile photo is a symbol of Tengrism, a religion of Genghiz Khan, Hunnus, Atilla, many Asian Nomadic rulers(Turkic Khaganate and many others), rulers of Chinese Empires of nomadic origin.

Actually nothing spectacular, but it probably is something, you, Americans and others, may not know.

@Tperry1982 Hmm should I be worried now? EA results will be out soon and he wasn’t contacted for an interview. We are in NJ so I doubt there is a lack of interviewers.

Is it true that the longer the interview lasts, the better? Mine lasted about 2 hours…

@citiusaltus I would assume that to be the case. My interview lasted for longer than an hour and a half. We just kept talking about politics and stuff. It was awesome!

Will the fact that I was waitlisted last year either benefit or hurt me? What do you think?

@Eljui7

I think the best thing you can, in fact the best thing we can all all do is relax hey. Sure being waitlisted and then applying EA the next time round shows you are committed to the college, but remember this is a whole new applicant pool, so if you are contender - I am sure you are - you stand as much of a chance as any other contender. So relax be happy, que sera sera friend…:)

Anyone knows how Yale decisions are done? The Princeton thread has excellent information about the process, but I doubt it is the same for Yale.

Yale decisions are holistic. Scores, grades, etc are important. But so are LORs and counselor recommendations are important. Please go back through some of my posts and you will see some of my insights about essays and ECs. Don’t want to type it all again.

Good luck to all of you!! Every kid in my D’s class last year, even those who were “devastated” by a rejection, is having the time of their life in college as we speak if their FB pages are any indication. Some seem to be having way too much fun!! And I am sure there is not one who would want to leave where they are now for whatever school it was that rejected them.

Does anyone know if were compared to our school averages (i.e. SAT)? I’m only asking because my SAT score is barely over 2k but my school’s average is about 1500. Also, do they compare applicants from a high school to previous accepted students from that (high)school?

@chncsy: I have the same question about being compared to students from previous years. I am quite similar to one of the girls from my school that was accepted last year, but she chose to go to Harvard instead… and I’m not sure if that means they are looking for people like her… or will it hurt me because she didn’t choose to matriculate?

@apesrocks - You’re over thinking this way too much. Your application has been submitted, and our opinions don’t matter at this point. There’s only a week and a half left, so enjoy your time until the decision is out. :)

All I want for Christmas is to hear the Yale acceptance song (chant?) signaling that I’ve been admitted to the Yale class of 2019. :((

Thanks for the wishes and the information @Tperry1982! Your posts have been very helpful, I appreciate you are dedicating some time to help wary high school kids. Also, do you know how do they select who gets admitted? I saw in the Princeton thread that there is a pre-selection process, so only the best applications are discussed in committee; do you think it is the same for Yale?

@chncsy, I read an MIT blog from an admissions officer that said they knew a lot about a myriad of schools, so they can form a very good opinion about the opportunities you have in high school (and they will also take into account your background).

@apesrocks, I agree with @Dannnn, you are over-thinking this. However, I do not think that will put you at a disadvantage in any way, especially if you demonstrated that Yale is your top choice by applying SCEA. Bear in mind that a person with a similar profile who was accepted last year may not imply that you may be admitted, as it depends on the applicant pool (e.g. last year she was the best pianist from the Midwest that wanted to study engineering, but now you may competing with another great applicant from your same region). Cheers and best of luck everyone!

I think they compare you to students of your year, academics wise. I feel they want to see a basis in what you all do academically, but the comparison stops there. I don’t think you have anything to fear about being compared to the girl from last year, I don’t think that happens.

Do accepted students ever get an actual letter in the mail congratulating the student on the acceptance? Something to stick in the old shoe box

YES! and some other fun stuff a minibanner and poster and things like that! ours came to the Fedex office and DS had to go sign for it. but we aren’t in the USA. GOOD LUCK!

Yes. An actual letter does come a day or so later with lots of other documents including information about Bulldog Days.

Sorry wells14. If I knew that I wouldn’t be worrying about how to pay my kid’s tuition cause I’d be rich!!
