Yale DOES do Score Choice for SAT Subject Tests!

There seems to be some confusion on this, but according to the “Standardized Testing for Freshmen Applicants” page, Yale does NOT do Score Choice for the regular SAT and ACT tests, but for the optional SAT Subject tests, “Yale does participate in Score choice for the reporting of SAT Subject Tests. You may wait to receive your score results before deciding which scores, if any, you would like to send to Yale. Please keep our deadlines in mind, however, as you consider that option.”

Happy Labor Day everyone!

So does this mean that if I got a less-than-satisfactory score on the general SAT, I don’t have to send that in, even if I do want to send my Subject Test scores?

If you are submitting the general SAT to Yale, you still have to submit all the general SATs you’ve taken. The SAT Subject Tests are independent of that.
Let’s say you took the SAT twice and got a 1630, then raised it to a 1800. You’ve also taken three subject tests and got a 620, a 700, and a 740. If you didn’t take the ACT and want to submit your SAT, you have to submit both the 1630 and the 1800. They’ll look at the highest score from each section. If you’re also submitting the optional subject tests, you can just submit the 700 and the 740, regardless of whether you submitted the SAT or the ACT.

TL;DR: Submit all you SAT/ACT results and only your good subject tests.

That must be new. They didn’t allow it last year for subject tests.

Wow. I’m so glad they updated this before I sent in all my subject tests… oh, wait [-(

@Nerdyparent yeah I was really annoyed because everyone was saying that you had to send them all in, but I checked the site and it was different!

@mytosies Bummer, but I’m sure they’ll only consider your highest two. You definitely won’t be the only one who sends them all!

@Esmer832 Yeah haha honestly I’m not too worried  i would’ve preferred to keep the 730 math 1 to myself but I have a math 2 and six others to offset it so I think I’m fine! I have a poor friend, though, who sent in all of his, including two he was forced to take by his parents freshman year. Now he is very, very annoyed because he did NOT like those scores. But hey, it’ll work out in the end  I doubt any of us will lose a place because of a few points on a subject test!

@mytosies wow, six?! I submitted two haha. But yeah, I’m sure a few subject test points won’t disqualify us  Cheers to you and your friend and good luck to us all!

THIS IS AMAZING NEWS. SO happy.

I apologize if my questioned is answered somewhere else and for reviving a month-old conversation but can someone clarify:

Yale does do score choice with the SAT subject tests. That is fairly clear on their website. But what about in their supplement on the common app? They ask for applicants to report all test scores not previously reported in the main section of the common app that allows for one to select their best scores to report. So if an applicant has subject test scores they choose to not report via the College Board’s Score Choice option, aren’t they still required to report them in Yale’s supplement to the common app?

Thank you.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:
@college4many More to the point, start a new discussion to ask your question. Hijacking a thread is rude to the original poster. Closing thread.

Many students applying to Yale have taken the SAT or ACT multiple times. In addition, some student have taken 10+ AP tests and want to report every single score. All of that information will not fit on the Common Application, which is why Yale’s Supplement asks students to report all test scores not previously reported in the main section of the Common App. But, it does NOT mean that a student is required to report an SAT Subject Test or AP test if they don’t want to, as Yale does participate in Score Choice for the SAT Subject Tests and AP Tests.
