Somehow, I feel I would've been accepted were I a URM of some sort. affirmative action is a fundamentally flawed, racist practice...But those of you that got helped by it, I do not resent you; you did the reasonable thing of maximizing your chances/opportunities. It's the system that's flawed.

Sleet, many URMs were rejected EA. Being an URM does not guarantee admission. I am one and I was deferred. Also, it is important that URMs get these opportunities such as Yale provides for affirmative action because there are so many other areas in life that they will miss out on simply because of ethnicity. Whites generally do not have to worry about this.

I just know that this will become an affirmative action debate because sirwonkalus said this:

"Also, it is important that URMs get these opportunities such as Yale provides for affirmative action because there are so many other areas in life that they will miss out on simply because of ethnicity. Whites generally do not have to worry about this."

Somebody will probably bring up references to homosexuals and asian students. Then somebody will probably come back with how affirmative action is about reparations for slavery. Then somebody will point out that slavery occurred over 100 years ago. People will bring up examples of minorities that should not have received an affirmative action boost and others will have examples of minorities that deserved a boost. People will say that URMs underperform. Others will say that admission is based on more than scores.

The bottom line: STOP!

I hope that by outlining the this argument.. that occurs pretty much every other week on CC.. people will not convert this thread into another AA debate.

haha, davidrune. ok

So, to get away from such a controversial issue...

davidrune, how are you doing? This board has sort of fallen apart since the 15th. Not the same comradere as before. Everyone has begun to leave. Nice to see you around.

Oh, I"ve been lurking around. Trying to write essays and failing. you?

I'm still here!!! The reject is STILL IN THE BUILDING

I'm lurking as well... can't seem to get myself to leave.

woah woah woah are you trying to blame the whole thing on me?

No one seems to be blaming anyone here... they're just choosing to not turn this into a debate.

yeah, i'm still lurking.

re aa: i think the comments made on page four (by whom, i don't remember) were unnecessary, ignorant, and blatantly offensive. of course people accepted to various schools have achieved such by personal merit, and many people don't think otherwise. however, i do think affirmative action is flawed in its judging of URMs rather than of those who hurt socio-economically. oftentimes those overlap, but sometimes they don't.

in conclusion, affirmative action is a bit of an outdated practice (society has changed since it was created), but it DEFINITELY should not affect the way we talk to or treat each other on this board, despite how bitter or disappointed we are at the outcome of the EA results.

that said, how is everyone doing here? i feel like everyone dropped off the face of the earth.

I'M DOING GRRRREAAAAAAT! Actually, not really. I'm in the middle of an argument with my parents.. not doing too well. blah I think most people just read posts now. LEAVE POSTS, GUYS! I want to know that you still exist! And others have drifted to other boards... aww. :(

I'm still going to be around for a while - at least until April when i find out where i'm going (pray to god it's Columbia)....anyway. Yeah, i'll be here - i'm not ready to leave "home" just yet

It's nice seeing everyone here. I know myself, ivyboy05, and others have a bunch of applications either finish or hope over. For those accepted, where else, if anywhere, are you applying regular decision.

Have a great Christmas/Channukah/Ramadan/(Budha fun day, etc.). Christmas "break" won't be much of a break for those of us finishing applications, but a good time provided to do just that.

I'm also applying to "Hahvahd," Princeton, and Stanford, although I'm sure I'll end up choosing Yale.

well, well, you seem to be 100% sure of getting in

because spezzatura was already accepted..

haha thanks davidrune

i didn't realize that until i read your profile.

sorry, my bad.

no hard feelings?

hey, sprezzatura, happy belated birthday!
