Yale Eli Whitney Student Program - 2017

tr0ll…? seriously can’t say tr0ll?

@kgallagher of course military applicants should be highly appreciated and they don’t piss us off, but does that mean they have priority over other applicants who have special experience in other ways? If so, why don’t this program just add up a requirement that only veterans are eligible to apply?

It’s pretty apparent that neither of you have any idea what you’re talking about, and you’re dismissal from the interview, and ultimately the program most likely, are causing you to lash out at veterans. If you would like to discuss this further, please PM me. Otherwise, suck it up and go away.

For what it’s worth, they didn’t offer interviews to all veterans who applied, and they don’t only offer interviews to veterans. Some of the successful candidates in previous years were not veterans, and that can be seen by looking through old threads on this site. I’m a veteran with a recent GPA of 3.77 in Computer Science (I had a 4.0 until Calculus came into my life) and I didn’t get an interview. I’m curious to know exactly what it was about my application that held me back from this opportunity, but apparently I’m not a fit for the program. I don’t understand why some people are so disgruntled here. I’m disappointed that I won’t be attending Yale, but it’s an extremely selective school. There’s a much larger chance of getting denied than accepted. We all know that. Lashing out at people who got an opportunity that you didn’t get isn’t going to make your life any better.

I read the aforementioned article about Hillary Browning. These guys have points. Yale is sacrificing real students for people like Hillary and @kgallagher.

And it is concerning how volatile @kgallagher is. What is @kgallagher going to do when someone disagrees in class, shoot them?

Ive been to 5 continents and 20+ countries. Ive got 5 mideast deployments with Spec War. I have research and development experience with engineers/scientists on multiple projects with several different govt organizations. Iv got a 3.7gpa/41 credits as a geophysics undergrad and 28 ACT . The only reason I don’t have a 4.0 and 32 on my ACTs is because I have a wife/3 small kids and work 40-60 hours a week in the field- sky diving, maritime operations, etc. I took 5 months writing my essays and they are solid. I am far from under qualified…

@softy426 since when is telling some one to suck it up volatile? Why do you think I’m going to shoot some one?

This speaks volumes to that maturity thing I mentioned earlier. Again, these discussions are inappropriate for this thread. I’m happy to discuss this with any one in private messages.

@kgallagher deploying an individual such as yourself to Middle Eastern war zones is fine, but we are talking about an educational institution.

Based on your credentials, when your future professor fails you, are you going to put him in a triangle choke until he passes you or passes out?

It would be great if this thread went back to the supportive tone it had at the beginning.

Professors don’t fail me. They give me a highfive and thank me for being awesome.

@softy426 I’d just give them the goat stare, and accomplish the same objective. On a serious note however, is what are you going to do, since your education has obviously failed you?

Also a veteran here, competitive application, didn’t receive an interview. Instead of crying about it on the internet, I cried about it in the shower. Then I went back to class, and moved on with life.

College Confidential is a wonderful resource, please don’t ruin it. Go stand on Capitol Hill and picket your anti-veteran, “life is unfair” speech.

@CharlieBravo check your email and phone. Patricia Wei promised interviews to all veterans. Whats your stats?

Yes we should make introspection and learn from it; I must be under qualified in some way. I don’t have any negative opinions on veterans, just simply questioned the selection process because others brought it up. And kgallagher himself also mentioned that “I know military were promised interviews and front-of-the-line application review.” in a Brown RUE thread, which means he knew it. Anyways, sorry about it if any offense caused.

Although I’m not on board with all vets receiving interviews regardless of their academic achievements, I do feel that there is a reason why these schools treasure veteran presence in their classrooms. On that note, here’s a little somethin’ somethin’ from Professor Mansfield:
“The nature of voluntary service in the United States military is arguably both aristocratic and democratic. Be proud of your service, but don’t be self-righteous.” -Harvey Mansfield, Professor of Government, Harvard University

Lastly, everyone is entitled to form an opinion of their own. I hope you guys can accept that and keep the supportive tone on this thread. I really hope that this thread doesn’t discourage future non-veteran EWSP hopefuls from applying.

The truth is highly qualified veterans make highly competitive applicants. People are just upset about their prospective rejections and looking for a group to blame their shortcomings on. Human nature.

I didn’t hear anything about Yale promising vets interviews, but I know Brown did.

Who is Patricia Wei?

Hope this helps.

Received my rejection letter this afternoon, though without an interview I figured this was coming.

I know who @CharlieBravo is. @CharlieBravo is Patricia Wei

Received my rejection notification yesterday as well. At least they didn’t make us wait until the end of the month before making it official. Good luck to everyone interviewing!

Any body know when decisions are coming out? I know they said prior to the 22nd, but I was wondering if any one heard anything else.
