DS will be a freshman this fall. We do not live in state and will be flying in to help with his move-in as he’s making his way back from FOOT (Yale provides the keys to parents before FOOT students arrive). Because space will be limited on the plane, I want to purchase several items via Amazon and Target.com.
Is it better to have him activate his PO Box early on Aug 19th when he arrives for FOOT so I can mail packages directly there? I spoke to someone at the post office and they claim they can hold the packages until we arrive on the 25th. Or are the negative posts regarding package retrieval from Yale PO true and would you recommend avoiding this during move-in?
Is it better to ship directly to the Student Receiving Center at 250 Church Street?
I would have him activate his box early, sure (to avoid the lines doing so later) but agree that avoiding shipping things there the first three weeks of school is the smartest move. My daughter’s 18th birthday was the day classes started and she got my birthday brownies about two weeks later
I would agree - avoid the PO Box! We have had similar issues. It was our daughter’s birthday during her first month in a new country and nothing arrived on time. The staff were also horribly rude to her, which wasn’t a good advert for the US postal service. Her godmother has also tried to send stuff and has had at least two things ‘returned to sender’ after several months, with no explanation. The Student Receiving Service at least received stuff promptly and were polite - though apparently it was a long way to carry the big box back to college last year!
