@gettinonmynerve: and your wanting to start a measuring contest based on SAT sizes on the Yale and Penn RD applicants thread is going to help diminish anxiety? Go do something constructive. Looking at others SAT and bemoaning your chances and grasping for straws for any hope is as useful a one-legged man at a butt-kicking contest. Your odds were terrible the moment you hit SUBMIT to Yale and Penn – just like everyone else. Please go have some fun or help your mom re-arrange a closet or something or binge watch something off of Netflix.
To all alumni and any current students that may be viewing this thread - what’s (or what was) diversity really like at Yale? (racial, religious, socio-economic etc. - all facets of diversity) As I have gotten mixed feedback from the people I’ve talked to (everything from “everyone is white” to “one of the most diverse schools out there”), and would like to know more about other people’s experiences.
@gettinonmynerve I suggest you look at some of the many past threads dedicated to decisions. On these you can find the SAT scores, extracurriculars etc of previously accepted/deferred/rejected applicants.
@fizzy110 Hey there. I know right. I have already come across these threads multiple times. The thing is that, they are from ED applicants so, even though I can get an idea, they are not very reliable figures. Lets be honest, ED applicants have slightly higher chances of getting in.
@gettinonmynerve Applying early does not increase the admittance chance, the only reason it appears that way (i.e there is a higher acceptance rate) is because in general that applicant pool contains a higher percentage of competitive candidates. Not to say that the RD round is not competitive , it’s just that it’s unlikely “bad” candidates will stretch themselves to prepare for the ED round. Also there are many applicants in the ED round who have been basically guaranteed admissions beforehand (such as athletes who have been in contact with Yale coaches, and have been pretty much told that there is a spot waiting for them at Yale before they even get their decision).
@gettinonmynerve, furthermore, you can instead look at the RD threads from previous years
This may have been mentioned previously, but why not bring it up again. For all prospective, current, or past Yale undergrads, what’s your favorite part about the university? I recall a question on the Common App that dealt with that, actually. Of course, I didn’t just say “the academics and faculty.”
I talked about how I love the unique nature of the Stem Cell Center in that it goes out of its way to address ethical and political issues regarding stem cell research, and is very much an interdisciplinary endeavor that pulls faculty and students from all majors and interests, whereas most other centers and institutions of its kind seem more one-dimensional.
That’s a general trend with the entire school, I think, but it especially benefits the programs I am most interested in (bio, med, and biomed) by incorporating real world factors and influences into my learning. I feel that it’ll make me take a step back and approach cell engineering or whatever related field I go into in the future with a broader and more worldly approach, and that’s important because with that kind of field, those other influences can be easily lost or forgotten.
Now that I look back on his, it may not be the best way to get your mind off of the school, lol. But it’s something to talk about other than likely letters and acceptance rates at least, right?
PLEASE do not start the comparison game! It is not helpful; it is hurtful and increases stress. Your applications are in. People are looking at them. No more can be done on that front. Enjoy these last fleeting weeks of your senior year. You will not pass this way ever again. Make it special!
Hey do you guys know if Yale is likely to stick to the April 1st decision release date?
@joker258 All the Ivies release their decisions on the same day. This year that day is March 31st
@nandroida how do you know 3/31
@MomTwo2
It has been widely spread throughout this forum and if you check on some of the other Ivy league school websites they explicitly say March 31st. Here is a link to a UPenn article that says it:
http://www.thedp.com/article/2015/03/likely-letters-aim-to-recruit-top-applicants
The last line of the article says decisions will be released on March 31st at 5pm, presumably EST.
Hope that helps !
Also, Yale sent an email saying decisions would be released on 3/31
@Jellybae, where was the email sent to?
@luv2sk8 in the email that gave you instructions for your eli account
And so it does. March 31. Last year ivy date was 3/27, so I had assumed the 3/31 date stated in the letter was just an annual date which would be adjusted. Now I see. Thx.
@MomTwo2 It’s on the online portal. Children not registered yet?
I also received an email from Yale about the 03/31 release date, but all of my Yale-applicant friends did not. Does this mean something, or am I overthinking?
@kayture, when did you get the email? recently or when you first applied?
^ It means the email is in their spam folder or your friends forgot which email addy they used. Either way, overthinking
