YALE RD CLASS OF 2019

Hi! Technical question: my counselor submitted the final report without sending the mid year report (as an international student, different academic calendar) and this report appears as “downloaded” on my Common App account. However, when I check my Eli account, the final report is nowhere to be seen and the mid year report still appears as “not received”. I was thinking: should I tell my counselor to submit the mid year report with the exact same information as the final report, so that I have a green check next to it? I don´t want to have something as “not received” much longer…

@123whatever‌ I would wait a few more days and then if nothing changes, I would email the admissions office about this. Since you are international, they might have made a technical error when processing your report. :slight_smile:

I haven’t got a call… Am I not getting in?

yeah i know two people from quest bridge who got a likely call! I would love to get one but I know i won’t hahaha the odds are definitely not in my favor

I have a friend who got a likely call through QuestBridge as well. His rep told him that he would have matched if his EFC wasn’t 0. Also, he said this is the first wave of ‘likely letters’ that consist of QB applicants who participated in NCM and ranked Yale. At least that’s what I understand–I didn’t do QB’s NCM and I’m not too sure.

I sent in my application Jan 1st night and got an interview (via Skype) request on Jan 13th. I’m actually pretty nervous right now, heh. Good luck everyone! :slight_smile:

A question for those who say interviews do not give an advantage: if so then why does the school do them and why does the school say they are evaluative interviews if they have no effect on the admissions decision? I can see how the effect is limited because not everyone can get one, but can’t understand how they don’t affect the decision. Can you clarify please?

Hi All, I just joined CC and I needed help on two issues with regards to my application. My SAT scores are a little low as compared to my ACT, but my 2 SAT subjects are full. I have sent my ACT score to Yale. Is there any way I can send SAT subjects, considering Yale does not participate in score choice so they might end up getting my SAT score too. And should I send an additional LoR from my internship mentor.
Thanks in advance.

It helps Yale fully understand the applicant, it adds another perspective. When people say it’s not an advantage it is because the vast majority of the time the interview simply serves to validate the applicants admission file. Sometimes though, in rare cases, an applicant in person comes across much more compellingly than they do on paper or significant gaps or flaws surface. I’ve done interviews for colleges before and some kids really come across impressive in person, to the point I will intervene or try to in order to advocate on their behalf. Both extremes are rare, maybe 1 in 20

@Poshope Yale does not participate in score-choice, so if you wish to submit your SAT subject test scores your SAT I score will be submitted as well.

I wonder what that means? QB is a full ride. Yale meets full need so 0 EFC means a full ride.

What is EFC?

@bsalum EFC= Expected Family Contribution

Thanks @stahboy, I´ll do that :slight_smile:

Thanks @tola2015‌

Thank you @‌Wje9164be
That is what I thought and that is what I thought of as an advantage. But I can see your point that it allows the college to see another dimension of the candidate. In our case that dimension is spectacular and so I couldn’t see it as not being an advantage - but I get it.

Hey guys! How can I submit a mid-year report if I graduated last year? On my Eli Account it says that the report is not received, but I don’t understand how can I send a mid-year report if I am not in high school anymore. What should I do?

@ProudMomx3
I apologize for the confusion, I was half asleep when I typed that last night, it should say:
“I have a friend who got a likely call through QuestBridge as well. His rep told him that he would have matched if his EFC was 0.”
Hope this clears things up.

No likely call here, a bit discouraging, but I’m nowhere near the caliber applicant of the other QB’s who got accepted :smiley: . I’ll just be grinding along here till March tho

I had my interview last week and I think it went well. I was a bit nervous as it was my first one, and I took a lot of points away as to what I could do to improve on future ones. If you have interviews coming up, just remember that they will be trying to do everything to make you comfortable (The vast majority will).

As my friend told me, just think of it like this: Your interviewer has probably, just like you, had some bad tacos that REALLY did not agree with them one time in their life. If you go about it that way, you’ll instantly be calm :slight_smile:

The DC area prides itself on trying to do interviews for everyone assigned. I have three assigned (one done and one scheduled). We all got a gentle reminder yesterday asking us the status of our interviews.

One piece of advice to applicants- answer your phone or open emails, also check your spam folder often. Teens often don’t answer the phone if they don’t recognize the number. I’ll call you a few times, but I am not going to hunt you down. I even have to call the home number trying to get a response. The parent is usually mortified that the student hasn’t responded and I usually can then get it scheduled.

So, parents and students take heed.

My son submitted the app on Jan 1st but hasn’t been contacted yet. We are in the DC area. Should we email Yale admission for the interview? Do you have enough alumni to interview the applicants in DC area?

He submitted his app to Standford Jan 3rd and already had the interview set up.
Just wondering how the interview process works. Thank you.
