today I got an email by college board through which I applied for fin. aid for Yale, that said a college has requested more documents needed to determine my financial aid. I should forward additional documents to the Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC). It didn't say Yale in the e-mail but Yale is the only college I applied to, so it got to be Yale.
Does anyone know if that could mean anything? I mean could it be that they have already decided and I'm in?
Would they bother to request more information and deal with my fin.aid application even if I'm not in, or if they haven't decided yet?... has anyone made a similar experience in the past? accept/decline....
I'm so freaked out right now, if it actually meant something.... but I really don't know. I'm international and not at all familiar with the acceptance and financial aid procedure in the US.
your thoughts are appreciated

It means nothing. Colleges evaluate your financial need at the same time as they evaluate your admissions application, so that if you are admitted, they can send you a tentative financial aid package at the same time. This is particularly true for need blind colleges such as Yale.

My d also got the "additional info" requests for FA. She didn't get into some of the schools that asked for the additional info.

Sorry.

Got a phone call directly from Yale's Financial Aid Office for more information. A week later, got a "likely letter".

AnotherMom2009-what did ur likely letter say?

Oh, forgot to ask - is your s/d an athlete? Or why do you think u got a likely letter?

OP- Everyone gets the IDOC e-mail. It is an alternative way that some elite colleges do the financial aid for secuirty reasons. I had the e-mail for Haverford and Yale, and a friend has to do it for Harvard.

Sorry to disappoint, but it honestly means nothing.

It's just you filled out the CSS Profile and some schools use IDOC as their central processing system, as you need to send in the tax forms and whatnot.

Everyone gets the IDOC request after they send in the CSS.

getting the request for more financial aid documents is standard procedure for Yale. At this moment, the only way to know that you are going to be accepted is from a "likely" (Means definite unless you shot someone or flunk out of school)letter. Request for financial aid information will occur with all colleges that need them to calculate your financial aid. Sorry for the disappointing news. Best of luck.

Yale is the only school you applied to?! May I ask why?

Lol. I got a likely letter from Yale and was overjoyed. Probably the best day of my life since "the day I was born of course" :p. Even then, I was surprised. I never expected a letter because HYP are all the top notch universities in the U.S. if not the world too. To send to just Yale is foolish. Even if you are alumni legacy, you shouldn't have all that confidence. Unless you are some super mega-athlete or have super-dad donation, you should not have applied to just Yale. The statistics as I was told harshly by my counselor is that "while you are one of the most qualified student I have seen in my 20 plus years here", there is no guarantee that you will get into HYP. You should have applied to some other ivies. It's probably too late now. Good luck and wait for the admission decision in late March. There's nothing you can do now from my knowledge.

Perhaps Yale is the only college the OP applied to in the US.

I hope lol. :p

Perhaps it's the only private school that the OP applied to given that I applied to UCs, which are public and do not use the CSS Profile "system," if you could call it that.
