Yale student attacked with bricks!!!

In broad daylight...

Yes, but did you notice how Yale students and police chased the youths down and arrested them? No apathy here.

I'm afraid to go to Yale now. I thought that the New Haven area immediately around Yale was not bad when I visited, but apparently I was wrong.

This didn't happen in the area immediately around Yale. It was on the outskirts of town. There are some areas you have to be very careful while walking alone. You'll learn where they are, just like people who live in NYC learn where it's safe to go alone.

Hey, in Los Angeles, they use guns.

Lynwood Pl. isn't that far from campus... it is one block away from Pierson College. Around 3 from Old Campus.

This isn't something that happens frequently, conwoman. It shouldn't deter you from Yale.

Oh, really? I thought it happened like RIGHT by the yale campus. I'm not one to walk alone at 2 AM anyway, but I would like to feel safe walking with friends in broad daylight or to a restaurant at 12 AM. And this would definately not deter me from Yale - I've already mailed in my reply. I was just concerned...

I hate to sound callous, but the story's a little funny. Only because it involved brick-wielding teeny-boppers.

I mean, think about it. The guy only had minor injuries and he got hit in the head by an f'ing brick. The kids must have been like 13.

Yes, I know I'm going straight to hell.

Last winter there was an advisery posted by the school warning students to walk in pairs, not to wear jewelry or talk on cell phones, etc. b/c it was winter and bad guys hid things under their coats. It was sent out by Yale to students, and the link was listed on CC. I would like to re-read it, but have been unable to find it. Can anyone help? Thanks

Minor lacerations, yes...but it is scary when you consider that he described it as "lots of blood." I don't feel like they were chucking a pebble at him.

Lynwood is a street basically full of students-- its one of the most popular streets for students to live off campus. There are a variety of houses, including fraternity houses and just other student houses, that occupy the street. The Yale Police patrol it but this can happen at some point. The thing is that these kids on bikes for the most part are scrawny 13-15 year olds that can be dealt with by most Yale dudes if necessary.

Who throws a brick, honestly?

When I chose Pton over Yale, it wasn't this sort of thing that deterred me. Really, I think these risks exist in any city, and that students who take appropriate measures can be assured of their safety. Lots of you Yalies are going to make it big someday : ), perhaps it's not a bad things that you're getting an introduction to the negative aspects of urban life...

hell, if i were a poor kid living in a loft on Lynwood or Howe I'd probably throw bricks at the goddamn frat boys too.

walk west of pierson drunk in a pink shirt and you deserve to get your ass kicked by future yale physical plant staff.

uhh....
that's really scary.
=T...

lol @ that post

ctrain and legendofmax, you guys are funny (in a good way)

crime happens to students no matter where you go to school:
