Yale supplement form question

you know how it asks you to "expand your response to the SHORT ANSWER on page APP-4 of the Common Application", do i still write the 250 words on the space provided AND write an additional 500 words expanidng on the previously written 250 words (making it a total of 750 words)?

OR

do i just answer the short answer as if its a long essay of 500 words and leave that space empty?

Isn't the Short Answer limited to 150 words and not 250?

Anyway, I always thought the Short Answer should be a summary, or a part of, the longer Yale Supplement essay, but I don't know for sure.

i agree with wmgan

For Yale's thoughts, go to http://www.yale.edu/admit/faq/applying.html

i always thought it was 250

where did you see word limit? anyway, I thought it was a summary of the essay

about that -what activity are you all writing about? i think im going to do church, but im not sure. i wasnt really at all religious until high school, when a friend invited me to this youth group event. I really enjoyed it, became more involved, and now teach a 5th grade catechism class. What I enjoy most about my church is the community (as well as the religious aspects) - could i tie this into the fact that one of the things that most attracts me to yale is the strong sense of community (what with res. colleges and such) that i havent felt at other schools? thoughts?

Hm I wrote about volunteering at a camp. Typical reponse I guess but I did find it meaningful so there.. I think it's fine as long as you make it clear why it was meaningful to you.. hmm. And yeah, keep it short. =p

I also heard that you can write the two on different topics. Like, write a 150 word response, then write a longer one about a different activity.

kit416.. id go for it ... plus it shows diversity since most appl dont express religious interests

Here's what Yale says:

**Instead of expanding upon my response to the Short Answer question on page APP-4 of the Common Application, may I write about a different topic for the Essay question on the Yale Supplement?*

You are welcome to choose a different interest or activity as the subject for the essay question on the Yale Supplement. You will serve yourself best by keeping the short answer short, resisting the temptation to try to say everything, and by writing a thoughtful essay for the Yale Supplement Essay question.*
