Yale Transfer with 3 years of college?

So on the Yale website, it states this for transfer apps:

"If you have received a bachelor's degree (or the equivalent) or if by the end of the current academic year you will have completed more than two full years toward the degree, you are not eligible to transfer to Yale, nor may you apply through the freshman admission process. (You may not voluntarily relinquish credits in order to qualify for consideration.)"

I have taken 3 years of college, however, it was not going for a bachelors. I am a CC kid and double majored and now have two associate degrees, in Ad Design and Multimedia design. If I went to Yale, I would be going for a BFA in graphic design.

So would I still be allowed to transfer? Or do you think this is a question more suited for the admission dept over there?

Also, is it possible to get into Yale if I did extremely well in college and not so well in high school? Granted, I was in the top 20% of my class in high school and got all A's and B's, but my SAT scores were really bad, at 1080. However in college I maintained a 3.76 GPA and graduated magna cum laude, and was the top graduate of my major. And let's just imagine for the sake of argument that I have an excellent portfolio.

it's an uphill battle for 3.8s from ivy league colleges to get into yale, let alone students with extenuating (albeit compelling) circumstances. i learned oh so well first hand

best of luck

yale took approx. 35 out of 600 applicants...i think around 4%...so i would call that a huge reach.

this year it was like 800+ applicants for 30 acceptances

Im not banking on getting into Yale, it is simply a consideration. Im aware of the circumstances :)

I would be interested in hearing from current students in the art and design programs. Typically art schools (even the best such as RISD) hold the portfolio above grades and the such. Im wondering if that is the same for Yale.

I wouldn't bother applying if I didn't think I had a worthwhile portfolio.

yeah i understand where you're coming from...just letting you know...when people say harvard is the hardest to transfer to, they're wrong. yale is.

29 out of ~900.

wow so nevermind...i'm not applying to yale lol

You should definitely still apply.

I just became a member yesterday and have tons of posts to sift through, but did anyone on this board successfully transfer to Yale this year? If so, would you mind sharing your stats?

my buddy from trinity did. bastard. i still don't get it.

oops. stats.

honors program at trinity. history major. 1500 SATS, 3.0 HS GPA
3.88 college gpa. two recs from really well known profs who he's buddies with. they both did grad work at yale and/or taught there for a time. junior transfer. didn't have any ec's at all to speak of. not one. but had applied as high schooler and sophomore transfer.

so those are encouraging stats for me to apply...it just seems so insane that they only took 35 people! what are the odds?! are there just not any exceptionally talented students trying to transfer there or what? I highly doubt it. I think those recs really helped your friend. Very lucky person.

Yes, two people from this very thread got in. I couldn't find anybody else.
