hi I think they get it in their Yale portal - dd did it so not entirely sure but it’s def there once completed
My daughter got the art questionnaire either via email or via her portal. I can ask her which later. She submitted her app on 10/31.
Good luck to your son!
Yeah, they are nice folks, but to the extent they could they seemed to be warning against doing this automatically on an “anything might help” theory. And I do think they were hinting at how that could be counterproductive (to make something not very competitive a centerpiece of your admissions case).
But they also acknowledge there is a middle ground between applying to be an actual major, or it being likely counterproductive, and people just have to use their judgment on whether they are far enough into that middle ground to want to do it.
Do Yale tend to interview quite a high proportion in this cycle? I guess they don’t have many weeks to do them in though
I don’t have the breakdown, but there are about 9,000 completed interview reports for recent years for both cycles of about 50,000 applicants. Last year there were about 7,700 SCEA applicants. If I were to hazard a guess, since the SCEA applicant pool is likely stronger than the RD pool, it would have proportionately more interviews relative to applicants.
Has there been any official statement to this effect?
What I see is that students who attend well-known programs (I know the STEM programs like RSI, PRIMES, PROMYS, etc.) almost always get letters of recommendation from those programs even though they very likely have excellent teacher recommendations as well. And these students routinely get into the most selective colleges.
Take a listen to the Yale podcasts that discuss supplemental information and LoR’s.
Thanks, will do.
In the admissions website, there is a discussion about LoR’s and supplements related to advanced science and engineering research. That may be its own animal.
Has anyone received an interview yet?
I submitted one research paper that really spoke my theme. Will one research paper be enough and could it potentially hurt my chances?
Thanks. So it turns out that we were both right. Yale generally doesn’t want any additional recommendation letters, except in the case of STEM supplements, in which case Yale actually does want one.
If you have been engaged in advanced science or engineering research, you should consider requesting a letter of recommendation from a research mentor who has been involved personally with your work. Follow the instructions in the science or engineering research section above to submit your research via the STEM Research Supplement Form and invite a research mentor to submit a letter of recommendation.
I would listen to the Yale Admissions podcast on Supplemental research items. They go into some detail as well as the general website.
If you applied SCEA, then you gave it your best shot and I would not second guess yourself.
My DS submitted art portfolio a week back (a link to YouTube video), but we still haven’t received the questionnaire , called Yale admissions and they said they don’t see the art supplement yet and asked us to give it few days. But I hear that the deadline for the questionnaire is today. Is it normal to take this long for the supplemental to show up ? A bit worried here.
Thanks
Just curious if there is any updated answer to this question.
I actually have not heard about anyone being invited for an interview yet. Not that I would necessarily know, but in both my real world and online circles, nothing so far.
I have not heard of anyone either.
Have heard nothing in TX, MA, or CA
Have not been asked to do any interviews yet. We all had to prove we attended/watched the new training based on a secret PW. The live training occurred in mid/late Oct. This probably caused a slight delay as interviewers had to be “qualified”.
Hi we got the questionnaire The same day I think and it shows in the applicant portal once completed - however it seems that the arts supplement itself doesn’t show in the applicant portal; we asked Yale if this was right and they said they had the supplement. I guess she applied quite early so possibly its because of the volume they are handling currently?
Thanks for your response.
Did you upload the file directly or a link ? We uploaded a link to YouTube since it was a huge file ? We are trying to resolve with Yale admissions.
