“In general we dont admit many students off the waitlist. This is why I encouraged you to focus on the schools that you were admitted to after you sent us your update letter.”

Hmm that seems a bit harsh.

I guess they were just trying to convince me to not get my hopes up

Thanks! It appears that they might have made their decisions and don’t want to be bugged by us for updates.

Yeah. Pretty depressing news :(

I got a reply from my admissions counsellor a couple of days ago after sending in additional materials and he said they would be making the decisions soon… He was more pleasant about the whole thing though.

@mchen013 I doubt the tone of the reply had anything to do with your potential outcome. Probably more to do with the fact that I’m sure they wouldn’t want to be be bombarded with emails about the waitlist.

On another note, how many people do you think chose to remain on the waitlist?

I hope you’re right. Well, I think that probably like 500 or more stayed on.

That seems like a good number. I have read between 40-50% end up remaining on the waitlist.

On a side note, UChicago has had another record yield year. Hoping there were a lot of cross-admits that decided to go the UChicago route .

Well I noticed a a few on the Facebook group that chose UChicago over Yale!

Are you able to log onto the Yale admits Facebook group, or is that from the UChicago Facebook group?

That’s from the UChicago admit group.

That’s good info peter, thanks for sharing. I know we are just hanging on to straws but selfishly hoping Y has a low yield this year ;).

I asked my regional admission counsellor that will Yale be using waitlist this time and her reply was ‘Yes, we are in the process of offering admission to students from waitlist. It may take a little time but should not take more than a few weeks.’

@Gunner94 when was this?

E-mailed her two days back and got a reply today 5 hours back.

Since my admissions officer was so blunt with me, I’m guessing I didn’t get off the waitlist. Oh well, I tried everything I could have.

I don’t think so that may have been the case. Each counsellor has his/her own way of talking. Counsellors of different universities had different tone with me so it all depends upon the person and his/her approach. Also I was reading last year’s forum and two people who called on same day got opposite reply regarding the use of waitlist and in the end both got the same waitlist result. I won’t rule out the possibility of it but it doesn’t seem likely so keep your hopes up. :D

Man, I hope you’re right Gunner94. I was rejected by almost all of my schools, and waitlisted by a couple, including Yale. Yale has always been at the top of my school choices, and it’s been a pretty crummy past couple of months.

mchen, cheer up, you have gotten into some pretty good schools. What part of the country are you from as it seems the NE schools tend to favor kids from the east coast?
