Hi CC:
I was accepted to the YYGS PLE program a few months ago. But I could not attend. How do/should I put the fact that I was accepted to the YYGS program on my common app?

How about: YYGS PLE (enrolled but unable to attend)
That looks great @T26E4! Thanks for responding.
My guidance counselor did advise me against mentioning the program at all because she thinks it’s a bit ridiculous to say that I got in but did not attend. What do you think?
I dunno. I think it’s neutral, one way or another. Certainly the rest of your profile will show that you’re the type of student who would be accepted by the pgm – but one part of me thinks that your effort to apply and be accepted shows some determination to get to Yale… but that’s only a guess and I don’t know if it’d mean anything in the end
I agree with your guidance counselor. Don’t waste precious space on something you did not do.
I definitely agree with your guidance counselor. At best it looks like name dropping and at worst it looks like resume padding. The purpose of the activities list is not only to list the names of activities, but also to show AOs what your contribution was within these activities and how you grew through participating in them. Due to the fact that you didn’t actually participate in the program, you wouldn’t be able to elaborate in either of these areas. Presumably if you weren’t able to attend that means your doing something else this summer. Put whatever the activity you ultimately ended up participating in on the activity list.
