Yale

Anyone else here trying for yale?

probably the hardest, most quirky in terms of selection, transfer process around...

but on the other hand, with harvards decision to decrease transfers, harvard will be just as hard as yale this year.

Yeah I decided to give it a shot, 3% acceptance rate, those are my kind of odds:)

Yeah me too

another one here

i guess we are all feeling lucky then.... lets hope.

anyone know what is going on in terms of the process?
yale is awfully tight lipped, they dont even bother to send notices for application complete etc...

My son sort of applied, but they lost his transcript from college and wanted more of a dean's letter than he submitted, so he blew it off. So much for THAT $75.

Transferapp07, they do send you an e-mail about your app being processed.

They screwed up my application fee and bugged me about paying it again, even though I could clearly see it had already been cashed from my bank account. This stern-sounding lady reminded me to send it in as quick as possible and would at first not even entertain the thought it was on their end, not mine... Sheesh.

when did this happen for you?

I spoke to them recently on a whim and found out that they never received many of my documents - though they did deposit the check i sent with my application

if i hadn't called to find out I never would've known, they never sent me a notice of missing documents e-mail.

First they sent me an e-mail saying my app "wouldn't be processed" before the fee was paid, somewhere in the beginning of April. After I had a bank employee call them to confirm it'd already been cashed and sent them a screenshot of the check as it appeared in my online bank statement it took another week or so before I got an e-mail saying "thank you for your application, if anything is missing we'll let you know". I figured it was a standard e-mail, but it might've been just a courtesy because of all the fee hassle.

I sent all my materials in one envelope and sent it priority mail with confirmation. No problems.

Yeah, same.

I had them lose everything I didn't personally send them. THAT was a pain. I applied to Yale last year ED got deferred, RD got denied. Now I'm at West Point and trying once again. Best of luck to us all!

I'm applying to Yale as well. I'm gonna get in though.

lol duobeef... why do you say?

I wouldn't discredit it automatically, do you have someone helping you get in or are you just being comical?

I already like duobeef, and I've only read two sentences by him. THAT's why he's getting into Yale (there may be other reasons as well, but they're only coincidental).

I'm really thinking of applying to Yale this fall for entry in Fall 2008. I was rejected the first time around.

However, I am little worried about the essays. For the transfer essays, what are they expecting? The "why do you want to transfer here" essay bothers me. Can it be just like the essay you write for freshman admission?

i dont think so. the "why do you want to transfer" essay is almost the most essential thing in the application aside from grades. with yale's 4% acceptance rate, you should have a compelling reason to transfer.

Yeah, grades are just the initial requirement. They could easily fill up 25 spots with 4.0's if they wanted. The essay is the really the thing that matters. Be creative; be compelling; be honest.

But, I mean, could it be the "I compare myself to the different types of sushi and this is why I want to go to your school"?

I don't understand how it is supposed to be different from any other essay.
