:| Would it be bad if I don't include an optional essay?

Cause frankly, I don't think I have a smidge of a chance of even thinking I might get accepted. I'm only actually doing Yale app because my mom pushed so hard.

But... I also know that when they say "optional essay," they really want you to do it. -_- And I admit that if I can actually crank out another 500 essay, it'd be good and enlightening for my app overall.

Better if I spend all-nighters for the next 2 days to just do it, or just forget it and turn in the Yale supplement + Common App without the additonal optional essay?

ask yourself if two nights without sleep is better than the rest of your life wondering "what if." OK so maybe I exaggerate. Still, it's not like the optional essay has to be super long or anything. It can be short- mine was around 400 words.

i just sent an optional one for yale. similarly, i too have no hope of getting in. but yea, dont go thru the wut if! just go ahead and write something. i wrote something ridiculuos and off the wall to contrast my more serious essay for the commapp.

and this is just my opinion, but i just thot that when harvard/yale say "OPTIONAL" essay , they are actually wanting ppl to do it to see who will actually go thru the extra work instead of ignoring something just bc its "optional".

but thats jus my opinion. honestly i dont know! im just a senior in high school, not the adcom! ;)

LOL actually me too.
but just go ahead.
try ur best.
after all ur spending like 60 or 75 dollars on teh app fee so why not make the best out of ur money? hehehe that was my motivation! -_-

ahh im done with apps forever.
cept .. after i turned mine in i got some awesomely awesome suggestions....
but since i already submitted ittt...... my essay is totally lacking.... crud!! nothing i can do now !

oooh princeton- GOOD LUCK ! ahaahha i bet i have like most reaches ever. i think all my schools are reaches, honestly, cept UT my safety (if im still top 10% after this semester... hope i didnt fail bio hahah)

syneria just go for it!!! bc, you NEVER know! (like my friend said, you only have NO chance when ur NOT applying to that school). but i think for me, its like negative chance here. hahah
but maybe if ur awesomely creative, they''ll totally like you. so i say.... just write it!!

go ahead and don't if you have sr-itis and feel particularly slackerish..though if u spend a lot of time wondering if u should, why not just do it?

T_T It's not so much that I want to slack and not do it. I was suddenly informed that we have a huge bio practicum, english project and TOK assignment due the day we come back. So I was wondering if I should better allot my time to those things than an optional yale essay.... :<

But I guess I'll just do it anyways. ;P Maybe I can do a kill-two-birds-with-one-stone essay.

Yale wants applicants to answer a question on how we became interested in applying to Yale, in 50 words! Goodness, whatand how can i write in 50 words? Help me, i'm stuck!

Me too. But I'm going to write that optional essay anyway.

(To be more precise - I'm going to edit it ONCE I've finished the common app one which, of course, I haven't even got started on.)

Oh the "how did you get interested" question is 50 words? I think I'm gonna say that I got interested when I found out Harold Bloom lectures there, consequences be damned. (Assuming there ARE consequences. I don't know. I don't know anything.)

well, seriously. What's the best way to answer thatquestion cleverly? i can't believe a 50-word short respond can be harder than a 500-word essay!

:| My "why" answer is ... so cheesy and stupid. It's basically that I was attracted at first to Yale's looks and campus buildings at first, and then grew to love its atmosphere, the professors, and characteristics, blahblah. But it's the truth. :\ That's all I can say.

Bleh. I don't know how I'm going to write that optional essay. Would it be okay if it's a bit on the shorter end?
