if i go to a school in boston, will they kill me because I am a yankee fan?

It's not something to flaunt unless you can somehow find a bunch of friends with similar sports persuasions who are also very large. In all seriousness though, most Red Sox fans are very passionate but also quite knowledgeable. If you aren't annoying about your affinity for the Yankees, then you can find yourself in some very interesting and rewarding sporting debates.

You might get teased or ridiculed, but not killed literally. The Yankees are hated most places, so good luck. And unless you're an arrogant prick who brags about the Yankees the day after they beat the Red Sox, people probably won't care. I'm a Cardinals fan and go to Chicago often. Cubs fans give me a good tease but nothing unbearable.

actually, it could get you in trouble. Especially if you flaunt it, and especially if you do so whilst going out/at night/at the pub etc. Sam Adams and a strong passion for your local sports team can be a dangerous mix.

that being said, of course they won't kill you. But, you could get hassled on a regular basis, and maybe get an ass-whoopin or two.

Welcome home Pettitte! :)

Friends from Boston will tease you about it, especially when the two teams are playing each other and Boston is doing well. If that kind of thing really bothers you, you won't like it. But, it's not like there are a bunch of people who are going to refuse to be friends with you because of it or anything. Even in Boston, almost everyone (and everyone worth being friends with) can separate pro sports from real life. You really won't be much worse off than a red sox fan in new york.

As others have said above, though, if the yankees have just won a game against the sox, I wouldn't wander into a bar late at night wearing a yankees cap and start bragging about it. You won't get killed, but you would probably regret it.

Remember the mega-brawl at U Massachusetts-Amherst between Mets and Red Sox fans during the 1986 World Series?

Don't remember (I was -1.5 years old ;) ) but the World Series being on the line is a little more important to fans than the average 3-game series. Unless it's in the fall and it's a 7-game ALCS, then you might have issues.

damn...i am a big yankee fan but i guess i could go without flauting them for a while. But why do people all over the country hate yankee fans???

I hope this really isn't a factor you are considering when looking at colleges.

it not, i will still go to a school like bc or bu, if i get accepted. it just that I heard some stories about redsox fans going crazy on yankee fans.

Most people seem to hate the Yankees because they've got enough money to buy just about any player in the world that they want. Me, I'm a Cardinals fan, no strong feelings either way towards the Yankees. We have a payroll of $89 million while the Yankees have a payroll of $195 million...and yet we won the World Series though :) but I don't want to get into an argument because like I said, I don't hate the Yankees and I don't love the Yankees. They're just another ball club with 9 guys on the field, and are fortunate to have incredible history, tradition, and an owner with a fat wallet.

dont worry about arguing the best player in the world plays for the cardinals, and he is from my parents country:Albert Pujols!!!!!

I don't care about baseball, but I still dislike the Yankees for a couple reasons:
- the subset of Yankees fans who believe it to be their duty in life to bring up the Yankees' past successes all the freaking time. Remember: no one wants to hear how many World Series you've won.
- the fact that the Yankees outspend everyone else to a ridiculous degree and essentially use the All-Star roster as their list of target free agents. To be fair, it isn't the fault of the Yankees that MLB economy is so asinine that teams like the Devil Rays start out with a ridiculous disadvantage and are almost doomed to never being competitive. Compare to the NFL, where the teams who are always bad (Detroit, Arizona) are brought down only by their own incompetence and not because their budget is a tenth of other teams.

Sorry about the rant.
