YDN: 26,000 applicants

I think I can give Yale a nice, no-hard-feelings wave goodbye.
But it was nice while it lasted?
Maybe?

Good luck guys, I hope we all do well!

If I don't get into any school I've applied to, I'm running off to the French Foreign Legion....

NOT.

Wow, 5 percent is loooooow. OMG. I have no chance. I wish I was a black, great football player, who got a 2400 on the sat I and II . and that i also had a 4.33 gpa. then i would surely be in

the only way you'd be surely in is if your parents donated a couple million dollars...

gks. A couple? Maybe not. If a dozen million, then likely

Come on guys, what is this? We are potential Yalies! We are smart, competent, and confident individuals. Every one of us has A chance. Let's try to be optimistic...maybe?....please, so I don't have a nervous breakdown?

I can see the eventual post now

Deferred -> Rejected

I don't believe they are even going to read all of those applications! How tiring it must be for the admissions people to go through them all. I don't think my son has much of a chance at all with these odds :( ,but we are hopeful sigh

These are terrible odds though... I just don't think I'm impressive enough to get in over tens of thousands of other great applicants.

On a much more positive note, lol:

think about how incredibly, earth-shatteringly amazing it will feel if/when you get accepted! Yale is basically telling you "We think that you will contribute more to our college community than about 24,000 other highly capable high school seniors. You pwn."

:)

Another way to look at it is that it truly has become a crapshoot. You have absolutely no control over Yale's decision. You throw your hat in the ring and hope for the best.* A needed oboe player got "your" slot. Nothing you can do about it.

*Terrible mixed metaphor.

hey guys... I am an international student. My admit rate is going to be like 2.3% ... Maybe I am not going to the US for college this year...

i agree with hookem -- of course, it's a crapshoot now and you can't chance anyone anymore because our opinions don't matter. but instead of thinking about all the negative outcomes of this crapshoot (two to be exact: waitlisted or rejected) why not think of the positive ones.

it would be a truly remarkable experience to have been chosen amongst so many talented people. don't lost faith in yourselves and hope for the best

Insane! Good luck guys..

I don't think it will be much more difficult to get into Yale despite a lower admissions rate- there may be more less-qualified people applying this time around.

But still, it was ridiculously hard to get in last year and 10 years before that, too.
So just imagine the slaughter this spring will bring.

@ the prophet...

haha I don't consider getting waitlisted to be that negative. With this year's class, heck, I'll consider it an accomplishment!

I don't think the admissions process is a complete crapshoot. One of my teachers seems to think they take all the apps and throw them down the stairs and then pick the ones that land on a certain step. From what I experienced, it's evident that they do look at you as closely as possible within their time constraints. But I think Yale overall does a good job of admitting people with passion. Of course, they miss out on a lot of great applicants too, but they're not superhuman.

ChandlerBing, stop being so negative, lol.
I'm with you, hookem168.

mistofthekane: you only said what you just said because you got in! of course you think they do a good job admitting people

hmmph
