hey,
i am a sophomore at the academy, and have been reading this forum for a few years now, and thought it was finally time that i posted here. As i said, i am a sophomore, and i am interested in taking a gap year. I have asked around a lot about how the process of leaving and then re-applying works, and have not really been able to get a decisive answer, so though i would see if anyone here knows. My plan is to leave at the end of my 3 degree summer (guess it is 2 degree summer), and go to africa for about 8 or 9 months to work at an orphanage. I am currently a cadet in good standing, never on any type of probations, and am on the comms list. If anyone could give any insight as to how the process works and what factors go into the re-application process, i would really appreciate it. Thanks a lot!

Sent you a PM on it.

I think it is possible if you are a Mormon, but that is the only situation I have heard of.

incorrect. the academy cannot discriminate and only let Mormons go. Do Mormons leave most often, yes, but that’s not limited.

I have a friend who took a year off to study in France because she wanted to.

I have two different Catholic friends who each went to Mexico for a year for mission trips.

I have a couple other friends who have also left for a year, not for mission trips. So it’s definetely doable. Talk to your chain of command and look into it with them.
