Yearbook Class

My school is a little different from others. As being in a charter school, my school doesn't have a lot of APs, Honor classes, or electives.
Yearbook has officially been turned from a club to a class, being added as an 8th period that runs after school since my school is a 7th period schedule.
To the real issue, my friend is in yearbook. She loves yearbook and believes it will look good on colleges. But she's really falling behind in class and getting low grades. The rest of the classes, including two AP classes, are within the B-F range, giving her a GPA of in between a 2.0 and a 3.0.
Does yearbook class actually have an affect on her getting into a decent college if the rest of her grades aren't so great? How much of an impact is yearbook class on her getting into a decent college?

Eh, it depends what major she wants to do honestly AND if she likes it. It’s a decent EC, though. It only impacts if it has to do with her major, again.

It depends what you consider as decent; if you’re talking about state (not out of state) then yes most definitely. :)

It doesn’t really have anything to do with her major. She wants to major in forensic science to become a forensic pathologist. Yearbook doesn’t seem to really apply to her future major.

Hmmm. I mean, it’s not ideal for her to have less than stellar grades in her other classes, but Yearbook (and Newspaper) tend to look impressive on college resumes.

In these classes, you put together a publication, learn so much about being in a real work environment, using different software, design skills, journalism skills, etc. You’re never doing busy work, and you’re actually learning quite a great deal. And if your school’s yearbook wins awards, it looks even better.

So yes, I think it will have a slight impact but it’s not like it’s going to erase her bad grades.
