soozie- monkey’s D is not in this years cycle… she is a sophomore. Monkey is a friend of mine (figured out who she was from a previous post). Apparently i know everyone (referring to the funny coincidence of yesterday!)
Regarding the girl who has been accepted at UMich… my S and I know her too…she is all everyone has posted about her and more … and she deserves to be in the UMich class of 2015… now I only hope my S is a classmate of hers next fall : )

stagedoor22- your extraordinary D’s name came up in conversation today… i called her a quintuple threat… incredible voice, outstanding dancer, brilliant actress, brains and beauty… and she is one of the nicest girls i know!

thatsmyboy, I don’t know who monkey is (in real life) and thanks for explaining this is not her son’s admissions year. I eventually caught onto that. Meanwhile, I now realize who YOU are and WE are FB friends. LOL Just spoke yesterday when you were sitting at an audition with one of my students from across the country! This thread here seems full of parents from the same theater camp, though I haven’t met any of you before.

I just realized who stagedoor22 is too…oy, I know you too as we are FB friends. Somehow a bunch of parents from the same theater camp are all on this thread…my kid is a different age than your kids and so we haven’t met, but hey we’re all bonded here on this forum. :)

my daughter just got a nice email saying that Michigan MT has “decided to postpone making a decision on your application at this time. While this may not be the answer you were hoping to hear it is still good news.” She is disappointed because she was really hoping for a definitive “yes” since there seem to be some acceptances already floating around out there, but at least it’s not a no. The email also says they will “finalize our review of applications following the March audition and interview date and will notify you no later than April 1.” I just hope the pool of “serious candidates” they are considering is not so large that her chances still remain slim. Looks like another month of waiting. So painful…

@MTOHFan - CONGRATULATIONS!! That actually sounds like fantastic news from where I’m sitting, though I do understand the waiting must be very tough!

I was just about to post in the name of sharing information, that I have a student that just got a letter of “still in consideration” like was posted in post #64. I consider this very positive and anyone who got it should feel affirmed to be in the running, no matter the final outcome in another month. :)

Thank you for all the information. It surely helps during the waiting time. Do you happen to know if voice performance at UMICH is the same admission procedure as MT? Or is it handled differently? My child has auditioned for voice and will audition in March for MT. Thank you for your your time.

MTOHFan, my son got the same “deferral” letter today from Michigan. While we are very excited, I was wondering if anyone knows what the numbers are for past years (number who were deferred and those deferrals that were eventually accepted)? Just trying to figure out the odds!!!

@pemestau, that is exactly what we were wondering. It sounds from the responses that the “deferral” status truly is a select group. But I understand that roughly 1000 students auditioned, and even if it’s down to 100 “deferred” students, that’s still scary odds. Don’t get me wrong, I’m so thankful that my daughter’s chances have improved, but to manage expectations it would be nice to know if the chances are now 1 in 4 or 50/50 or whatever. I don’t want to call the school and somehow hurt her chances by asking annoying questions, but the uncertainty is really difficult. I feel somewhat guilty saying that since I know that many students have been turned down, but that doesn’t help the butterflies that remain here in our household.
Since this seems to be a day that a lot of responses went out, I’d be curious if more students got a “yes” message today in addition to those that got the deferral messages. I’d feel a lot better if the first talented few that have received acceptances (those mentioned in earlier posts) were just an anomaly, and all the others being considered from this point on for acceptance are in the same “deferred” status as our kids are. Best of luck to you guys. Maybe our kids will be good friends this time next year. (:

I am basing this on my older D’s experience and that of her UM classmates - but there are students accepted to UMich who are not deferred. I think the ones who are eventually accepted who were first deferred may be a handful. I don’t think those three or four students who have already been accepted are an anomaly - unless they are doing their acceptances differently this year…don’t mean to be a Debbie Downer (!) - but just wanted to clarify that. And yes - a deferral at this point does mean you are still in the running!

MTMama - Hi! Thank you so much for your information. I’m just having a little trouble understanding it (its really me, not you!). I auditioned on 1/21…still have heard no news - just checked WA, no deferral email, etc. Are you saying that this means I can assume I am out of consideration or still very much being considered? Sorry and thanks for all your help!

My younger D is in the same boat - auditioned on 1/21 and has heard nothing. A friend who auditioned with her got rejected last week. So - if you haven’t been rejected, I would assume you are still being considered - but I honestly have no idea…!! I just wanted to clarify above that not all accepted students are first deferred…

Yeah…its very confusing. I’m just going to assume that I’m still being considered…even though I haven’t heard anything lol. Can’t read into anything at this point, I guess!

My D is in the same boat with MTMama and cjm93MT…auditioned 1/14 and has niether neither an official deferral nor any change in Wolverine Access Status…no way of knowing what that means, but its nice to know she is not alone!
