YESS program?

Hi, I'm a high school junior that really wants to attend Caltech, but I have a certain dilemma.

I am very interested in the YESS program. I feel that it would definitely let me live the life of a Caltech student (obviously not the entire experience but a good portion) and allow me to explore the different fields of science, for I have no decided what I want to be in the future (although I absolutely KNOW it has to do with science).

I plan to apply after I take the upcoming SAT II and gather all the necessary material.

Even so, if I were to be accepted I do no know whether or not I would be able to go.

So the problem I have is this: I have an opportunity to do research and participate in the field of science in a company. Do I take the company opportunity, which will last about two months, July and August, or participate in the YESS program (if I get accepted of course)?

And if possible, is it wise to do both, leaving myself with no time for any other activity in the summer? I know Caltech is definitely my top choice. I have already visited, or plan on visiting, other schools that I wish to apply to, as well as doing intense research on the schools. Basically summed up, I have learned and am still learning more about the other colleges I want to apply to. So is it a wise decision?

It's a question that has been bothering me for a while, and I think I know the answer to it, but I would still like to hear the opinions of the general public.

Please leave plenty of messages :D

Thank you

P.S. Do YESS alumni get a "leg up" in the admissions process? It's not really important, for I still want to attend regardless, but I'm still curious.

Call up undergraduate admissions and ask them. I’m sure the admissions officers would not mind answering your questions, especially since this sounds like a legitimate dilemma.
