Yet Another Annoying Chance Thread UMich Ross

So long story short, I got rejected from my ED choice and I’m looking for a safety. How likely am I to get into UMich Ross??

MAJOR STUFF:
Unweighted GPA: 3.9
Weighted GPA: 4.9
Total AP’s: 13 (4 during senior year)
Studied abroad in Japan for a year.
36 ACT (36 all except 35 math)
Recs: Doing a Business and Sales Internship 12hrs/week at international PR firm. And exchange, but that’s different. Otherwise 100 hrs random community service.

DETAILS:
Freshman and Sophomore: Went to a high-level school, took 6 AP’s total through freshman and sophomore year. Mostly 5’s, two 4’s on the exam. I did get a B in AP Physics and a C in the first semester of freshman Pre-calc (got an A second sem)

Junior Year: Study Abroad in Japan for 11 months through Rotary. I’m advanced-intermediate (JLPT 3) in Japanese thanks to this program. I also took three AP classes online (and got all 5’s and A’s): AP Macro, English Lit, and Calc BC.

Senior Year, probably all A’s, maybe one B:
AP US History
AP Art History
AP Computer Science A
AP Microeconomics
AICE Business
Dual-Enroll Calc 3 w/ Analytic Geo
Dual-Enroll World Lit

Is Michigan a safety for me?

I don’t know about “safety” since there are rumors UMich denies overqualified OOS students to maintain their yield rate, but if that’s not the case, then you have a pretty good chance (although my opinion doesn’t really mean much lol)

Do they really deny OOS students that are “overqualified” (though I fail to see how anyone could be for the second-undergrad business program in the country)?

Definitely not a safety. My in-state son was rejected PA with similar stats (3.97/36) , but accepted to Michigan engineering last year. It was a bit of a shock for him. I hope your essays do not hint of using Michigan as a safety and you applied EA. They do not like anyone who is not all-in. Since this is the first year of direct admits it should help you. Michigan’s in-state yield is ~75-80% and they would like to push the OOS yield up a lot higher.

Ouch. That’s pretty harsh news, but thanks for letting me know. I’m applying out of state… I suppose that makes it even worse, lol. Michigan’s Ross Preferred Admission process is pretty long… Lots of essays and things to send.
