Yet another chances...

Hi, I've been watching CC for a few months now, but never made a post. This past week I visited WashU and Northwestern, and I'm pretty sure I'm down to between these two. If anyone would, could you tell me what you think about my chances (I know people don't like these...but it would help me out :) Also, if anyone could give me any input on differences they feel between these two, or any other university suggestions it would help me as well.

Stats:
-I'm a white male from a pretty small, yet growing public high school which is not competitive in the least. As far as I know, in its history we've only sent one kid to Stanford a few years ago, and 2 kids to Northwestern this upcoming school year (I know all three of them personally).
-No one in my family has ever gone to college.

ACT: 34
SAT:
-Verbal-620
-Math-750
-Writing-690

(I took these without knowing anything at all and just for fun, and I probably won't turn them in:)

Weighted GPA: 4.7
Unweighted GPA: not sure...straight A's except 1 B in BC Calc.

All Honors Classes, took 2 high school courses while in 8th grade.

APs: BC Calc, Chem, Macro and Micro Econ, Statistics...will self study English Language and Literature. We only offer 2 more besides those and I wasn't able to take them because of other courses.

ECs:
-4 year member and captain of Speech Team.
-Only 4 year member of Newspaper staff, 1 year Managing Editor, 2 year Editor in Chief. Fought controversy of censorship, making news in 5 newspapers and NBC News.
-Went to state in Editorial Writing in first ever Illinois Contest Journalism Contest
-NHS
-Scholastic Bowl
-Mock Trial 3 years
-Eagle Scout
-4 year member of Band--3 years snare drummer, 1 year baritone
-All Theater--musicals, plays, etc.
-Contest Theater
-Part of Handbell choir at church
-People to People Student Ambassador
-Had a job for 2+ years.

I think WashU is definitely my first choice...I'm either looking at BME or looking at the whole Philosophy-neuroscience-psychology thing. I'm definitely considering ED also.

Any comments are greatly appreciate! Thanks!

Send your ACT score. It's very good. I felt that the key differences (for me at least) between Northwestern and WashU came down to the cohesiveness (?) I felt at WashU. The campus seemed more unified, and the students did, too, which is probably a result of WU's smaller student body. Another thing worth noting is that, as far as I know, Northwestern doesn't give merit aid, whereas WashU gives more merit-based scholarships than basically any other school of its caliber. This, for me, was a pretty important distinguishing trait, and it probably will be for you, too. Make sure your guidence councelor notes in his or her rec letter that you've taken basically all the AP classes offered at your school, and also make sure that WashU knows you'll be the first in your family to attend college, because it will impact not only how they view your application but also could open up major scholarship opportunities (think: diversity!)

Thanks!

Yeah...and appreciated is the word I meant up there. Whoops!

One thing I forgot is my class rank.

1/400

I know I said we're small...but 4 years ago we were about 250 kids...and when I moved here it was 90. It's a fast-changing community!

Wow, what a big school you have! I'm #1 in my class of 22.
