You Are Tiger Town Bound

Still waiting here.

@chb088 Receiving acceptances isn’t tied to when you apply at Clemson. Higher merit students receiving scholarship money sometimes hear early, but they generally mail all acceptances February 15.

What a surprise to see a Tigertown Bound Packet in my mailbox since it’s not yet Feb 15!
Applied 10/31 GPA 4.2 weighted 3.84 unweighted ACT 29 Philosophy: Pre-Law
Received $7500 per year OOS scholarship

@camcam2022 congrats! Do you mind me asking what state are you from?

@Baxter126 well lots of the stats here look similar to my S18 so now I’m even more curious.

@chb088 your son obviously has some good stats. However as @Baxter126 has noted Clemson admissions is really only focused on a few things. Test scores, grade point averages and more importantly class rank. ECs mean nothing to them for regular decision. Calhoun different story.

I think the class rank in 20% May be a detriment to early admission as for whatever reason class rank is something that seems to be important to Clemson

@Baxter126 has also noted it is the very few that get admitted before the February 15 deadline. So keep the faith.

DS applied Aug…still nothing although it could be Feb but I’m nervous he isn’t hearing since others are hearing from Engineering…just wondering if it’s FL (has anyone from FL heard anything??). ACT-32; GPA 3.95 unweighted/ 5.05 weighted…sports/EC good; my concern is his school doesn’t rank and will only tell students if they are in the Top 20% nothing higher—I’m concerned this could hurt his chances for admission and scholarship…

@burghdad just on test score and gpa alone his test score is equivalent to and gpa above that of Post 142. Sigh.

@chb088 my son applied first day applications opened August 1st. He has a 3.87 GPA, 1420 SAT 4 AP 10 Dual enrollment, etc. but is top 20% also in a very competitive HS and we have not heard either. It has to be their ranking.

@Baxter126 Congratulations! Makes for a nice holiday for your family! Would you mind sharing the perceived benefit of honors if not the housing? Living among similarly motivated students seems desirable, and the housing looked pretty glamorous. That said we are OOS and don’t pretend to understand all of the Tiger Town housing options.

@RelocatedYankee My son lives in the honors dorms this year and it is very nice. He has a killer view of Death Valley right out his window :). It’s definitely quiet and less social on the hallways because it’s suite style housing and their outer doors stay closed, like an apartment complex. For him, he would say the benefits are Honors advising, early registration, taking Honors sections of courses or Honors seminars that fulfill General Ed requirements and of course, the free coffee in the honors center. They get free tickets to performing arts concerts and shows, and financial help with study abroad options opportunities. They also have social functions like move nights, bowling outings, game watch parties, cookie breaks, etc. Even if you don’t live in Core C or D, Honors students have access to the study spaces and kitchens in there.

My daughter just wants to live in an all-girls dorm in Manning, which has the hall baths. It’s more social in that they leave doors open often, has more of a traditional “dorm life” feel if that makes sense. She’s spent the night with friends there and likes the atmosphere. In addition, her potential roommate will not be in honors, so they wouldn’t be able to live in the honors dorms.

@mweb136 thanks…makes me feel better. S18 has a pretty good ranking too…around 15%, but not top 10%. Still sucks to see kids with equivalent or lower stats getting in already.

@chb088 I couldn’t agree more!

@mweb and @chb088 I know it’s really hard to wait, this is our second year in a row doing this! But, remember that it’s very hard to compare those getting in with your student at Clemson because you are only competing against those in your selected major. The applicant pool is more competitive in certain majors than in others and requires higher stats numbers are limited in some majors and not in others. In addition, it’s up to the admissions people (by state) reviewing your application to get through their stacks and some have many more to review than others.

Many of those hearing now are Palmetto Fellows, which is the top level of the state scholarships in South Carolina. They may have earned that and have a stat or two that seems lower than yours. Knowing all that helped me realize that the process is much bigger than I can imagine and helped me put things in perspective. And, if it helps, the National Merit kid in my daughter’s class (applied as a Computer Science major) hasn’t heard yet either.

I agree that it has a lot to do with selected major- in regards to comparing stats and rank. My S’s high school does not rank outside top 10%, and he is not in that top 10. Based on quartile cut offs that are provided from the counseling department, I suspect he’s about 22%. He received his acceptance on Tuesday, but I don’t think his intended major, Psychology is super competitive.

My daughter is undecided so I was worried about the major thing, but she was accepted on Monday.

Has anyone heard about Poli Sci dept letters going out? Def the class rank at this point, I assume. Ugh. I hope we Don’t have to wait until February!

I called admissions today as we couldn’t take it anymore. LOL I asked if my son being top 20% was hurting his early acceptance even though he has everything else. The admissions counselor was so very helpful. Even though my son applied August 1st and has great stats she said his file was not even looked at! She said they are behind for NJ, VA and MA and hopefully after the holiday break we should hear. I was so happy and relieved to hear that. I can stop looking for my mailman every day now. They truly received that many applications.Hope this information helps others too.

S18 received his acceptance today! $7,500 OOS scholarship. Engineering major. 35 ACT 3.6/4.3 uw/w 20% class rank.

My son is also Undecided but @mweb136 that makes me feel better since he sent his in around Thanksgiving, it probably hasn’t been looked at either.
