You Guessed It...Another Chance Thread!

Hey, Brandeis isn’t my first choice, but I think I might have an ok chance. I’m applying to Arts and Sciences. I’m from a really small town in Northern California, female, white, jewish. Just as a reference point, I was pre-accepted to UC Riverside, Merced, Irvine, Davis, and San Diego.

Recs

Counselor-didn’t see it, but she really likes me and knows me really well so…

Also, I know Brandeis is a traditionally Jewish school, but how important is that and will the admissions people want to see something about my faith in my essay (i’m a pretty religious conservative jew)? Thanks for the help!

I think you're competitive for admission. As for the essay, you can certainly write about your faith if you want to, but I don't think at all that Brandeis "wants to see" evidence of religious belief, whether Jewish or other. I don't think they are particularly looking for a religious student body at all. Although founded by the Jewish community, the school is non-sectarian and attracts people of all religions.

Cool, thanks! I'll probably mention it just because it is an important part of my life, but i won't base my essay on it.

def in, saftey even

I think the chances are pretty good, but not a shoe-in by any means.
Her SATs are actually on the low-end of students accepted to Brandeis.

Since Brandeis is not your 1st choice, are you applying ED to your 1st choice school?

I applied early to stanford, but was rejected. I really wish i'd applied somewhere that i'd have a better chance at, but stanford was sort of my dream school, lol. so, now i have to figure out where i might want to go if it can't be stanford.

I have to say that Stanford and Brandeis are very different in many ways.
If Stanford was your "dream" school, what makes you think you would be happy at Brandeis if you were admitted.

I guess stanford wasn't necessarily my dream school, it was somewhere I knew I would be happy. I've been there, took a class there, listened to all my brother's stories, talked to all my stanford friends, etc. and I knew that it was going to be hard, but that I would be happy. I haven't had a lot of experience with other schools, and I'm not good with being out of my comfort zone, i guess. I don't know if that makes any sense, but i do realize that brandeis and stanford are very different, but i have a very eclectic personality and i have a lot of interests, many of which I think would fit in just fine at brandeis.
