Well the school year has started for many CCers ..but for those of you who still have summer vacation, i was wondering if you could give me some advice.

I have t options for my common application essay
1. the one I really want to do is about my mothers battle with cancer, but Ive heard that thee types of essays are too cliche......
2. The second essay topic I have in mind was when I was in 8th grade and I was accused of cheating on a test my second day of school because my teacher thought it was impossible for me to get such a high score. It was the first time I felt uncomfortable about the color of my skin....

Which one would make a better essay.....
Thanks in advance...

while the first one is a little cliche, if well written, it can be very good.

i like the second a lot though. it's different and it makes me want to read it.

Any One Else Have An Opinion.....

Write both. The first one unquestionably can be very beautiful. The second one can be very good as well, but make sure you don't offend anyone of any race, but I'm sure you know that.

Which essay topic is less risky...or would be less uncomfortable to read?

It depends on the way you craft your essay.... The first one is risky in the sense that it might be too cliche ...but it can be realy good and the second one is risy because it might make a reader feel a little uncomfortable. I dont know which risk is riskier though?
