I didn't get into HSHSP, and I doubt I'll get into the other couple of science internships I don't really want to go to. I'm waiting on AAJA J-Camp to send me my decision, but other than that I have an outline of how my summer is going. To briefly put it into detail, I live in NJ and I'm editor in chief of my school newspaper and editor of the yearbook. I'm planning on creating a literary arts magazine next year and I'm also the president of various clubs. I'm very passionate about speech and acting as well, but I would say my main extracurricular activity as of now is journalism. I plan to submit things to Quill and Scroll, and other contests (IF ANYONE KNOWS OF ANY PLEASEEE LET ME KNOW) next year and hopefully win something. So my idea this summer is this:

Attend a speech/acting camp (two weeks)
Attend a 5-day yearbook workshop
Attend a 5-day editor/journalism workshop
Possibly attend J Camp, which is the most prestigious of all of them
Do community service. Go with my aunt to her friend's animal shelter in Mexico for a couple of weeks and help them out in the summertime.
Do AP Homework, study for the SAT/ACT.

I was also thinking about going to the Journalism program at Summer@Brown, which is run by a pulitzer prize winning reporter. It's 3 weeks and costs a few thousand dollars and I'd have to rearrange/change my plan a little bit.

The only reason why I was considering this is because my summer seems... disorganized. Do you think the scatter of workshops and camps that you just have to pay for are worth it? I know they're not prestigious but will they show my passion for journalism/writing? My dream school is Princeton and I hope to use my passion in journalism and writing as an edge to get into college. It's my main focus, if you will. Does anyone know if any local newspapers in NJ allow teens to write? Hopefully someone can give me some help. Thank you so much :
